Plymouth Argyle will welcome Charlton Athletic to Home Park this weekend with the home side looking to get their title quest back on charge and keep ahead of Ipswich Town in the race for a spot in the Championship for next season.
Plymouth have dropped off quite significantly in recent weeks. The club come into this one off the back of two games without a win in League One, having registered their worst loss of the season in a 5-2 hammering from Peterborough United. Saxon Earley and Macaulay Gillesphey both scored a goal each that day, but Argyle next led in the game and the chances kept coming in from the Posh, as they had 11 shots on target.
Just prior to this, the Home Park faithful witnessed a lacklustre 0-0 draw against Fleetwood Town, although they did manage to squeeze past Cheltenham Town in another Football League Trophy semi-finals battle, and the club will now have the chance to win silverware this season when they meet with Bolton Wanderers in the final in early April.
Plymouth's last win in League One came against Oxford United in a 3-1 win, as they also defeated Portsmouth 3-1 just before that and shortly after their 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday. This run of form sees Plymouth head into the game three points behind Wednesday at the top of the table but also five clear of Ipswich in third. On the other hand, Wednesday do have a game in hand over Argyle and now head into this game with the same amount of goals scored (59) as the league leaders.
As for Charlton, they are winless in the past three games and have not scored a goal since their narrow 1-0 win away to Forest Green Rovers. The club fell to a 2-0 defeat to Derby County soon after and then went on to lose to Wednesday before a 0-0 draw with Peterborough.
