Plymouth vs. Portsmouth Prediction, Tips & Stats

For our Plymouth vs. Portsmouth prediction, we're going for a 2-1 win for the home side.

Plymouth Argyle are looking to keep the pressure on leaders Sheffield Wednesday as they face Portsmouth in League One this weekend.

Plymouth Argyle currently sit 2nd in League One with eighteen wins, seven draws and four losses from twenty-nine games this season.

The Pilgrims have been a revelation in League One this year as they look on course to challenge for automatic promotion from here until May. They looked as though they'd be the runaway leaders at one point, but having faltered in recent months the chasing pack have crept ever closer.

They enter this game amidst a reasonable run of form having won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five matches in the league, the most recent of which was a 1-0 loss away at Sheffield Wednesday.

The loss in Sheffield was a disappointing one as it allowed their promotion rivals to usurp them at the top of the table.

Their home form, however, has been impervious lately with Plymouth winning each of their last five consecutive matches on home soil in all competitions.

Plymouth are six points clear of Ipswich in 3rd and are still well on course for automatic promotion, but they need to improve if they are to reach the heights of the early season with Derby County going from strength to strength below them. A home game against Portsmouth is a good opportunity to claim a big three points.

Portsmouth currently sit 10th in League One with nine wins, eleven draws and seven losses from twenty-seven games this season.

Pompey's season has been a peculiar one, with the South Coast side starting like freight train before unexpectedly tailing off dramatically with their season now in danger of petering out into insignificance.

They enter this game amidst a reasonable run of form having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five league matches, the most recent of which was a 1-1 draw at home to Barnsley.

Their away form is a concern coming into this game, with Pompey having won one and lost four of their last five league matches on the road.

The two sides drew 2-2 when they met in the league back in September, but Portsmouth have declined significantly since then.

Three points is a big ask for Pompey side that have struggled at times of late. Plymouth aren't as infallible as they were, but they're still a very tough out.
