Portsmouth are still in the top half of the table ahead of playing hosts to Cheltenham Town in League One at Fratton Park as the Robins are now down in 19th and out of the EFL Trophy semi-finals after a midweek defeat.
Cheltenham managed to take Plymouth Argyle right down to the wire in the EFL Trophy semi-finals on Tuesday evening. Alfie May gave his side the lead last weekend by netting in the 49th minute until Ryan Hardie equalised. Plymouth would go on to secure a win through penalties.
Wade Elliot's side were also smashed at home against Barnsley last weekend, as the club went on concede four goals in the first 60 minutes of the match. They did, however, defeat Cambridge United just a week prior to keep up their hopes of finishing outside of the relegation zone.
Elliot's side now sit down in 19th with just nine wins on the board and 16 losses too. No side outside of the bottom three have lost more than them this campaign, with them also scoring just 25 goals all campaign long - no side has also scored fewer goals than them this campaign. Cheltenham also have one of the worst away records in League One this season, and their recent win on the road against Cambridge was just their second this season away from home.
As for Portsmouth, they have put together a two-game unbeaten run since losing to Plymouth Argyle two weeks ago. This has seen them defeat Burton Albion 1-0 thanks to a goal from Dane Scarlett in the 92nd minute at Fratton Park, as they also drew 0-0 with Lincoln City.
Pompey remain in 10th as a result of their recent run, while they still have games in hand to play on those around them. The club have won a third of their games so far (10) and they also come into this one with now a positive goals difference (37 goals scored and 36 let in).
