Shrewsbury Town and Portsmouth will meet in League One this weekend as 11th clashes with ninth where two sides are aiming to stay in the top half of the table this campaign after struggles to get into the playoffs.
With only five games left on the clock for Portsmouth, it would be quite a downfall if they were to drop out of the top half of the table this season with them 11 points clear of Lincoln City in 13th. In fact, Pompey are sitting ahead of Charlton Athletic just below them in 10th by two points and are above Shrewsbury Town in 11th by eight points too.
Portsmouth are still behind Bolton Wanderers in sixth by 13 points and they could find it mathematically impossible to get into the playoff spots if results go against them this weekend, forcing the club into League One for yet another season.
John Mousinho's side drew 0-0 with Morecambe last time out after also drawing with MK Dons last Friday. It means just one win in April for Mousinho's side after a 1-0 win over Forest Green that saw Owen Dale grab the winner in the second half.
Shrewsbury have had a terrible April so far and are now on a losing run of four games that has seen them concede 13 goals and score just one of their own with two red cards in the process. It marks their worst run of form in 2023, as Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic, Peterborough United and Barnsley all beat them.
