Shrewsbury Town vs Stevenage Preview, Tips & Stats

New Meadow sees Shrewsbury Town take on Stevenage this Saturday. The hosts will be looking for a three point haul to get them even further from the relegation zone, whereas Stevenage could get themselves into the Play-offs.

Shrewsbury Town currently sit 15th in League One after 26 games. The Shrews have nine wins, three draws and 14 losses, leaving them on 30 points, seven points above the relegation zone but also four points from the top half of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Shrewsbury have one win and four losses.

Jordan Shipley opened the scoring for Shrewsbury with 30 minutes to go, but a goal from Ricky-Jade Jones just six minutes later and a goal from Hector Kyprianou gave Peterborough the 2 - 1 win. On Boxing Day Shrewsbury made the trip to Cheltenham. George Lloyd bagged a goal in each half to give Cheltenham the 2 - 0 win, with Shrewsbury unable to even get a single shot on target.

Beryly Lubala scored the only goal of the game early in the 16th minute in a 1 - 0 win for Burton, where again Shrewsbury were poor upfront, only managing a single shot on target. Shrewsbury bounced back against Fleetwood next time out. Nohan Kenneh opened the scoring in the ninth minute and Chey Dunkley doubled the lead in the added time of the first half. Shipley added the third in the second half, and despite a goal from Shaun Rooney, Shrewsbury held on for the 3 - 1 win.

The last time out for Shrewsbury was against Wrexham in the Third Round of the FA Cup. Thomas O’Connor scored the only goal of the game to give Wrexham the 1 - 0 win.

Stevenage, on the other hand, currently sit seventh in League One. In 25 games, Stevenage have 12 wins, seven draws and six losses which leaves them on 43 points, equal with Barnsley in sixth, though The Tykes do have a game in hand.

In their last five games in all competitions, Stevenage have one win, one draw and three losses.

Jack Aitchison’s red card late in the first half opened the doors for the Stevenage opener from Carl Piergianni in the added time of the first half. However, Yanic Wildschut scored for Exeter just minutes into the second half and despite having an extra man, Stevenage couldn’t find another goal and had to settle for a 1 - 1 draw. Stevenage once again went ahead, this time through Luther Wildin in the fourth minute but goals from John McAtee and Herbie Kane gave Barnsley the 2 - 1 win.

Next time out Jamie Reid, Jordan Roberts and Elliott List all scored in the 3 - 0 win for Stevenage over Northampton Town. All three goals came in the first half in Portsmouth vs Stevenage. Paddy Lane opened the scoring but Louis Thompson equalised for Stevenage. However, Colby Bishop scored again for the 2 - 1 win, especially with Nathan Thompson’s late red card.

The most recent outing for Stevenage was in the Third Round of the FA Cup against Maidstone United. Sam Corne’s penalty in the added time of the first half was the only goal of the game in a big 1 - 0 win for Maidstone.

This will be the tenth meeting between Shrewsbury and Stevenage, with their first meeting coming as recently as 2010. Shrewsbury have the better record in the fixture with five wins in comparison to Stevenage’s two wins, with the other two games ending in a draw.
