Wigan vs. Carlisle Prediction, Tips & Stats

Carlisle United continue their search for a sorely-needed win as they face Wigan Athletic in League One this weekend.

Wigan Athletic currently sit 19th in League One with nine wins, four draws and ten losses from twenty-three games this season.

While inarguably hamstrung by an eight-point deduction, The Latics are finding themselves in a bit of trouble as they sit just four points outside of the relegation zone with over four games played.

Their form in the league is quite the concern as they come into this one having won just one of their last seven games, the most recent of which was a 0-1 loss at home to Derby County.

While not the worst loss in a vacuum, the defeat to Derby means they’ve now lost three games on the bounce and given the two prior losses came against sides struggling towards the bottom of the table it feels like they need to start being somewhat worried.

Their form at home has, in fairness, been much better as they come into this one having won two, drawn one and lost one of their last four games on home soil.

All in all Wigan have plenty enough to quality to remain in League One this season but when all is said and done that points deduction could ultimately be what seals their unwanted fate.

Carlisle United currently sit rock bottom of League One with three wins, eight draws and twelve losses from twenty-three games this season.

Not unexpectedly, Carlisle have struggled this season following their promotion from League Two last season and look odds on to relegated back down to the fourth tier at their first attempt of survival.

They’re entering this game totally out of form having won just one of their last eleven games in the league, with all of their last eight ending without a win.

Their latest outing saw them claim a fairly solid point away from home against Fleetwood Town in a 1-1 draw where Owen Moxen’s first half opener was cancelled out less than ten minutes later.

Overall, though, their form away from home has been awful, with four of their last five games on the road ending in defeat.

Even though they’re only five points from safety, it’s hard to see a way out of trouble for Carlisle at present as they’re not displaying enough encouraging signs to suggest they have what it takes to produce a strong run of form.

They’re coming up against a side with troubles of their own so there’s plenty to take advantage of here, but whether Carlisle have it in them to capitalise on Wigan’s struggles is a big question.

For our Wigan vs. Carlisle prediction, we’re going for a 2-1 win for the home side.

            Wigan Team News

The Latics have a pretty lengthy injury list with Martial Godo, James Balagizi, Matt Smith, Tom Pearce and Jason Kerr all absent through fitness issues.

Jordan Jones is also doubtful while Charlie Wyke is tipped to come back into the starting XI after missing the game against Derby due to personal reasons.

Thelo Aasgaard will also be hoping to feature more heavily here after making his return from a spell on the sidelines against Derby.

            Carlisle Team News

Callum Guy and Fin Back are both set to be missing for the away side here while Paul Huntington is doubtful.

Joe Garner, Jordan Gibson, Luke Plange and Dylan McGeouch will all be hoping for recalls to the starting XI.
