League One action continues this FA Cup this weekend with the last-placed Fleetwood Town heading to the Adams Park Stadium to meet with a Wycombe Wanderers side who are also struggling in the third tier.
It's been a season to forget for Wycombe and their hopes of getting back into the Championship at the third time of asking since their relegation has took a huge hit early on. In fact, with a 16-point gap on the top six now, the Wanderers barely have anything to cling to this season.
They have, however, put together two decent cup runs, including a win in the FA Cup already that has seen them defeat League Two's Bradford City in the first round before a loss to Morecambe in round two.
Elsewhere, Wycombe have also managed to make it into the quarter-finals of the Football League Trophy after a third round win over West Ham United U21s three weeks ago. Further wins in that competition has seen them beat Fulham U21s, Wimbledon, Stevenage and Crystal Palace U21s, meaning they've won every cup game this season besides a second round exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Sutton United and that loss to the Shrimps. Wycombe also defeated MK Dons 2-0 at Stadium MK back in August in the EFL Cup.
In the league, however, the struggles continue with the club netting only 30 goals this league season and letting in 36 too. Wycombe have put together seven wins too, but after losing to Wigan Athletic last time out, they have now suffered 12 defeats in League One. Alarmingly, this puts them only seven points above the bottom three, while Cheltenham in 22nd place also have a game in hand over them, which could drop that seven-point gap to four.
In contrast to the struggles of Wycombe, they are likely to survive this season, given the woeful form of those below them. One of those sides is Fleetwood Town, who head into this game down in last place and a gap of eight points to make up on the safe spots of League One. Last weekend, Fleetwood were dealt their 17th defeat of the season and their fifth loss in a row after losing at home to Portsmouth. The club have also lost to Derby County and Bolton Wanderers on home soil in this period, while they have also suffered defeats to Shrewsbury Town and Cambridge United.
