Notts County and Accrington Stanley are separated by just two in the League Two table ahead of their meeting on Saturday at the Wham Stadium with John Coleman's men finally ending a lengthy winless run on Tuesday.
Coleman's side defeated Swindon Town during the week with a win over Swindon Town at the County Ground. Jack Nolan netted a penalty that day alongside a late winner from Alex Henderson in a comeback victory. It moves the club above Tranmere Rovers and kept them above Notts County too.
On the other hand, the recent result ended a winless run of five games that saw them lose four in a row against Bradford City at home, Crawley Town at home, and away defeats against Wrexham and Walsall. The club also claimed a 1-1 draw against Colchester United.
Such results keep Stanley away from the top half of the table by only three points, and they have a game in hand to play on Tranmere just below them. Accrington have also managed to get their gap on the bottom three to a healthy 16 points with this midweek win over Swindon.
As for Notts County, they are above the bottom three by 14 points. However, they are currently the worst team in League Two based on the past five games, and their quest for a title at the start of the season now feels like a million years ago.
Stuart Maynard has seen his side lose to Crawley Town, Wimbledon, Crewe Alexandra, Wrexham and Sutton United in the past five games, but with further losses to Wrexham, Gillingham and Mansfield Town, Notts County are now on an eight-game losing run. Further draws with Barrow and the stunning 5-5 draw with Grimsby Town, plus a loss to Tranmere Rovers now means no win in 2024 and an 11-game winless run since beating Morecambe 5-0 at the end of December.
Despite an underwhelming season and a lengthy winless run of eight games, Notts County have still managed to get a win over Accrington Stanley this season. Macaulay Langstaff was the hero that day with a second-half brace after Daniel Crowley opened the scoring. Josh Andrews also bagged for Stanley.
