Salford will be aiming to continue their push for promotion as they are set to travel to The Cherry Red Records Stadium to face AFC Wimbledon on Monday afternoon.
The home side currently find themselves in 18th place in the League Two table and look destined for another year in League Two. The Dons are currently nine points above the relegation zone and seventeen points beneath the playoff places.
Wimbledon come into this weekend on the back of an inconsistent run of form which has been symptomatic of their season thus far. The Dons have lost three, won one, and drawn one of their last five league outings. This run has included defeats to relegation-threatened Crawley and Rochdale, in which both games Wimbledon failed to score.
On Good Friday, Wimbledon travelled to Wetherby Road to face Harrogate town, a side who are in desperate need of points in their bid for survival. All three points looked to be heading the way of Wimbledon as they gained a two-goal lead thanks to an Ethan Chislett brace, with goals coming either side of halftime.
However, Luke Armstrong's 89th-minute reply set up the grandstand finish and dramatically Levi Sutton scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to earn Harrogate an unlikely 2-2 home draw. Johnnie Jackson is now undoubtedly under, pressure having won just one of their last thirteen games in the league.
After losing last time out, Salford now find themselves outside the playoff places in 8th place in League Two, having amassed 63 points from their 30 league games so far this campaign. In what is a very congested table, the Ammies are just one point behind Mansfield and two behind Bradford.
Salford’s recent form has been inconsistent as they have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five league outings. The Ammies were beaten 4-3 in dramatic fashion against Crewe, however they managed to follow this up with back-to-back victories against Doncaster and Stevenage.
Last weekend, Neil Wood’s side were held to a draw as they faced fellow promotion chasers Stockport County at Edgeley Park. After falling behind in the 6th minute Salford were the team that looked more dangerous and managed to find a reply in the 53rd minute thanks to Callum Hendry.
On Good Friday, Salford were beaten by table-topping Leyton Orient. Two orient goals in the first period proved to be the difference between the sides on the day as Salford were unable to penetrate the O’s solid defensive line.
These sides have only met on one prior occasion in the Football League, which came in the reverse fixture earlier on in the season. Neither side could find the back of the net on that occasion despite both sides having chances to win what was a keenly contested game.
It is Wimbledon who are narrowly favoured at the bookies ahead of this clash and are currently priced @ 7/4, whilst an away win for Salford is priced @ 29/20 and a draw is @ 9/4.
