Barrow vs Tranmere Rovers Preview, Tips & Stats

Barrow welcome Tranmere Rovers to Holker Street this Saturday in a big weekend of League Two football. The hosts will be vying for Play-off football or even automatic promotion, whereas Tranmere are looking to enter the top half of the table.

Barrow currently sit fourth in League Two after 25 games. The Bluebirds have 12 wins, nine draws and four losses, leaving them on 45 points, four points within the Play-offs and four points from automatic promotion.

In their last five games in all competitions, Barrow have two wins, two draws and one loss.

Kian Spence, Sam Foley and James Chester all scored in the 3 - 0 win for Barrow over Swindon Town despite having just 35% of the possession. Ben Whitfield’s first goal of the day gave Barrow the 1 - 0 lead at halftime and a penalty from Gerard Garner doubled the lead early in the second half. Elliot Nevitt got Crewe Alexandra in the game but Whitfield’s second goal secured the 3 - 1 win for Barrow.

Whitfield was on the scoresheet again, this time in the second minute against Stockport, and a goal from Spence made it 2 - 0. Nick Powell got Stockport in the game in the added time of the first half and a goal from Akil Wright meant the game finished 2 - 2. It was another draw for Barrow, this time against Accrington Stanley. Whitfield once again put Barrow ahead but a goal from Joe Pritchard made it 1 - 1.

The last time out for Barrow was against Wrexham. Spence gave Barrow the lead in the first minute of the game, but a hat-trick from Steven Fletcher and a goal from Paul Mullin gave Wrexham the 4 - 1 win.

Tranmere Rovers, on the other hand, sit 15th in League Two. In 26 games, Tranmere have ten wins, three draws and 13 losses which leaves them on 33 points, ten points above the relegation zone and five points from the top half of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Tranmere have four wins and one loss.

The one loss came against Walsall. Jamille Matt scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute to give Walsall the 1 - 0 win, despite Tranmere having more shots on target. Dan Kemp gave Swindon Town the 1 - 0 lead at halftime, but a goal from Kieron Morris and Tom Davies gave Tranmere the 2 - 1 comeback win.

Despite having less of the possession, Tranmere ran riot against Salford City. Harvey Read Saunders, Morris, Connor Jennings, Regan Hendry and Joshua Stuart Hawkes all scored in the 5 - 1 win over a ten-man Salford, who had Conor McAleny sent off in the 72nd minute. Charlie Jolley and Davies both scored in the second half in the 2 - 0 win over Harrogate Town despite having just 40% of the possession.

The most recent outing was against Notts County. Morris opened the scoring in the fifth minute and Jennings scored in the last minute of the first half as Aaron Nemane and Macaulay Langstaff scored for Notts County to make it 2 - 2 at halftime. In the second half Saunders grabbed a goal and a 93rd minute penalty from Jennings gave Tranmere the 4 - 2 win.

Barrow and Tranmere have met 85 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1922. Tranmere have the better record in the fixture with 38 wins in comparison to Barrow’s 26 wins, with the other 21 games ending in a draw.
