Carlisle vs Grimsby Prediction, Tips & Stats

Carlisle United are hunting down Stevenage in League Two this weekend with the club back down in third after the latter won their midweek game as the Cumbrians welcome Grimsby Town to Brunton Park this Saturday.

Carlisle are having a magnificent season so far in 2022/23. The club were up into second as of last weekend, but with a win for Stevenage this week, they are back down in third and also have played one more game than the second-placed side. It doesn't mean there isn't a chance they can make it back into second this weekend, as a win for them and a loss for Stevenage will push them into second.

Carlisle have now lost just seven times and after a fantastic 5-2 win over Crawley Town the other week, they head into this game on a two-game winning run once more after previously failing to win their past three. Joel Senior, Omari Patrick, Owen Moxon, Morgan Feeney and Jon James Alexander Mellish all scored a goal last time out in that 5-2 win, as the Cumbrians took a 5-0 lead away from home at one stage.

Grimsby stunned Premier League side Southampton in midweek and their 2-1 win at St. Mary's wasn't just their best win in many years, but it also means the club are the first fourth tier side to make it to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup since Cambridge United in 1990.

            Carlisle team news

Carlsile's excellent 5-2 win over Crawlet saw five different goalscorers net within 50 minutes of each other and three of those came from the defence. Jon James Alexander Mellishm Joel Senior and Morgan Feeney should all remain in the side now after scoring from the back. Corey Whelan and Jayden Harris missed the game last time out and may come back into the side here, while Jordan Gibson also missed the last outing. Kristian Dennis is also set to feature at some stage here after missing the last outing. Michael Kelly and Jack Robinson are also back in the squad here too. Garner and Omari Patrick should start, however, as the latter scored as well against Crawley.

            Grimsby team news

Gavan Holohan was the hero against Southampton with two goals from the penalty spot and he will line up in midfield once more alongside Hunt. Otis Khan is set to come back into the side after missing the last game and Tom Dickson-Peters also missed the last outing and should get minutes here against Carlisle. Bryn Morris is set to come back into the starting XI after also missing the last outing. Danny Amos should get some game time as well, but Maher, Waterfall and Efete are all likely to line up in a back three. Shaun Pearson is also back now too, while Ryan Taylor may also play here after missing the game against Southampton
