Colchester United vs Bradford City Preview, Tips & Stats

Bradford City make the trip to Colchester Community Stadium to take on Colchester United this Saturday. Both sides sit in the bottom half of the table, though a win could mean leaving the relegation zone for Colchester, whereas a win for Bradford would push them closer to the top half of the table.

Colchester currently sit 22nd in League Two after 27 games. The Us have seven wins, three draws and 17 losses, leaving them with 24 points, equal with 21st place Salford City and three points from Grimsby.

In their last five games in all competitions, Colchester have one win, one draw and three losses.

Joe Taylor opened the scoring late in the first half and Chay Cooper doubled the scoring in the last minute of the game. Conor McAleny did score in extra time for Salford, but it wasn’t enough and Colchester held on for the 2 - 1 win. However, next time out, Colchester was on the losing side. Ellis Harrison left it to the 89th minute to score the only goal of the game to give MK Dons the 1 - 0 win over Colchester.

It was an eight goal thriller for Colchester against Wimbledon. Josh Davison opened the scoring in the fourth minute for Wimbledon but Cameron McGeehan equalised in the seventh minute. With a goal from Joe Lewis and Joe Taylor, it was level at 2 - 2 at half time. Davison and Lewis completed their braces and Ali Al-Hamadi got on the scoresheet as Wimbledon won 5 - 3, with McGeehan being sent off late on. Scott Malone scored the only goal of the game in the second half in a 1 - 0 win for Gillingham.

The last time out for Colchester was against Swindon Town. A Charlie Austin penalty and a goal from Tom Brewitt gave Swindon the 2 - 0 lead, but Matt Jay scored in the added time of the first half to get Colchester in the game. Bradley Ihionvien left it late, but in extra time he grabbed a goal for the 2 - 2 draw.

Bradford, on the other hand, currently sit 14th in League Two. In 26 games, Bradford have nine wins, seven draws and ten losses which leaves them on 34 points, just three points from the top half of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Bradford have one win, two draws and two losses.

James Connolly and JJ McKiernan both scored to give Morecambe the early 2 - 0 lead. However, Clarke Oduor and Bradley Halliday both scored to grab a 2 - 2 draw for Bradford. The next time out was another draw for Bradford. Both Bradford and Stockport could only manage one shot on target and had to settle for a 0 - 0 draw and just a point.

Chris Long’s early penalty was the only goal of the game in the 1 - 0 win for Crewe Alexandra. Danilo Orsi opened the scoring for Crawley, but a goal from Liam Ridehalgh and an own goal from Corey Addai gave Bradford the 2 - 1 lead. However, goals from Adam Campbell and Klaidi Lolos and a penalty from Orsi gave Crawley the 4 - 2 win.

The most recent outing for Bradford was against Derby County in the Third Round of the Football League Trophy. Sam Stubbs scored the only goal of the game in the 1 - 0 win for Bradford.

Colchester and Bradford have met 41 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1958. Colchester have the slightly better record in the fixture with 16 wins in comparison to Bradford’s 11 wins, with the other 14 games ending in a share of the points.
