Colchester vs Morecambe Preview, Tips & Stats

The JobServe Community Stadium is the venue for an exciting League Two matchup as Colchester are set to host Morecambe on Saturday afternoon in a game which kicks off at 3:00.

The home side currently sit in 18th place in the League Two table having amassed 10 points from their 9 league outings so far this campaign. This comes following three victories, one draw and five defeats.

Colchester's recent struggles have been due to a number of factors, including a lack of goals and a leaky defence. The team has scored just 15 goals in 12 matches this season, and they have conceded 20 goals. Colchester's manager, Matt Bloomfield, is under pressure to turn things around, and he will be hoping that his team can pick up a win on Saturday.

Colchester were last in action on Tuesday evening as they were narrowly defeated by Newport County. The U’s took the lead in the 34th minute, but Newport County equalised two minutes before the break and took the lead in the 64th minute. Colchester pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Newport County held on to secure a valuable three points.

After a mixed start to their season, Morecambe find themselves in 12th place in the league on 14 points. This comes following four victories, two draws and three defeats from their opening nine outings in the league.

Morecambe also were in action on Tuesday evening as they hosted Accrington Stanley. The Shrimps took the lead in the 64th minute through James Connolly, but Accrington Stanley equalised from the penalty spot in the 70th minute through Tommy Leigh. Both teams had chances to win the match in the closing stages, but the score remained 1-1 at the full-time whistle.

The fixture of Colchester vs Morecambe is relatively new in the Football League, with the sides first meeting in 2016. In total, the sides have met on ten occasions, with Colchester winning just one game, there being six draws and Morecambe winning three.

Morecambe recorded a comfortable victory when these sides last met in the 2020/21 League Two campaign. Goals from Adam Phillips, Toumani Diagouraga and John O'Sullivan gave the Shrimps the points against a Colchester side who were reduced to 10 men just before the hour when skipper Harry Pell was sent off for an off-the-ball incident.

Colchester come into this matchup as home favourites and are currently priced @ 21/20 to win the game, whilst Morecambe are priced @ 12/5 and a draw is @ 12/5. We are backing a draw as Colchester have the home field advantage however it is Morecambe who hold the better record in this fixture’s recent history.
