Crewe vs Barrow Prediction, Tips & Stats

Barrow will be aiming to put some pressure on the teams above them with a win as they travel to Gresty Road to face Crewe Alexandra on Good Friday.

The home side looks destined for another year in League Two as they currently find themselves in 17th place in the table. The Railwaymen are currently ten points above the relegation zone and 18 points below the playoff places.

Crewe come into this weekend on the back of a poor run of results which has seen them record three defeats in their last four league outings. This run has included narrow defeats to promotion-chasing Stevenage and Northampton town, who are both currently inside the automatic promotion places.

Last time out, the Railwaymen were able to get back to winning ways as they comfortably defeated Doncaster Rovers. Two first-half goals from Courtney Baker-Richardson and Connor O’Riordan were the difference between the teams on the day as Doncaster were unable to penetrate Crewe’s defensive line.

Barrow are currently occupying 9th place in the League Two table, having amassed 58 points from their 39 league outings so far this season. The Bluebirds are currently five points behind Salford, who are sitting in the final playoff place.

Pete Wild’s side come into this game on the back of an impressive run of form, which has seen them record just one loss in their last eight league games. This run has included vital victories over Wimbledon, Walsall and Stockport.

Last Saturday, Robbie Gotts scored a dramatic stoppage-time screamer to secure Barrow a welcome victory over Gillingham. Glenn Morris' early own goal handed Barrow the lead but the game looked set for a draw after Conor Masterson's 82nd-minute leveller.

But Gotts' first goal of the season came just at the right time to keep Barrow within touching distance of the top seven. Pete Wild will be hoping that his side can gain their third successive victory this weekend.

These sides have only met on one occasion since the formation of the new league system which was introduced in 1992. It was Barrow who cruised to victory on that occasion when these sides met in the reverse fixture earlier on in the campaign.

Billy Waters put the hosts ahead eight minutes in and Josh Gordon's goals either side of half-time made sure of the spoils. Ben Whitfield provided two first-rate assists in the first half as the Bluebirds took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Barrow are favoured at the bookies ahead of this matchup and are currently priced @ 6/5, whilst a home win for Crewe is currently priced @ 23/10 and a draw is @ 21/10. Barrow striker Josh Gordon is the favourite to score in the game @ 7/4, whilst Dan Agyei is the favourite to score for Crewe @ 3/1.

We are backing Josh Gordon first goalscorer as he has been impressive from so far this campaign, having netted 12 times in the league this campaign. Gordon will also be high in confidence having scored a brace the last time that these sides met.

            Crewe Team News

Chris Long will be pushing for a place in the starting XI after he came in as a substitute during Crewe’s last league outing. Long has missed the majority of the season due to an ankle injury but proved his worth last season as he was the Railwaymen’s top scorer in League One.

            Barrow Team News

Barrow have not reported any new injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s clash. Pete Wild is unlikely to ring the changes to the side that beat Gillingham last time out, with Josh Gordon and Josh Kay leading the attacking line for the Bluebirds.
