16th and 14th will take on one another in League Two this weekend as Crewe Alexandra look to move on swiftly from their dreadful loss last weekend as Walsall eye up the top half of the table for yet another season.
It's about this time in the League Two season where sides like Crewe are fighting for very little and merely looking to finish as high as they can in the fourth tier table. In reality, relegation has not been in question for Walsall all season long and Crewe have not had fears of the drop since turning things around during their great run of form towards the end of 2022.
Now, however, there is still a possibility of getting into the top half of the table, but the playoffs is almost impossible for both sides.
Walsall are just 10 points behind Barrow in ninth and they will fancy their chances to get ahead of Swindon Town in 12th after their dreadful turn of form over the past few weeks leaves them on 41 goals scored and 40 conceded. They do, however, have a game in hand, so Walsall are going to need to hope that other results go in their favour over the coming weeks.
At the same time, Grimsby Town and Doncaster Rovers are right Walsall on the same points but with a huge disadvantage in the goals difference margin.
Last time out, Walsall drew 0-0 with Carlisle United and after their stunning loss to Rochdale away from home in a 4-2 hammering, it now means it's been almost a month since they beat Gillingham with the club also losing to Wimbledon and drawing with Sutton United and Grimsby.
As for Crewe, they were handed one of their heaviest defeats of the season when they were beaten 4-0 by Colchester United last time out to push them down into 19th in the table. They managed to stun Barrow 3-0 before that, however, and also defeat Doncaster on the road. Lee Bell's men will now aim to finish in the top half of the table, but it does seem that is a bit of a push within itself.
