Doncaster Rovers vs Tranmere Rovers Preview, Tips & Stats

Tranmere Rovers make the trip to the Eco-Power Stadium to take on Doncaster Rovers this Saturday. Both sides sit in the bottom half of the table either fighting to get to the top half or out of the relegation zone.

Doncaster Rovers currently sit 22nd in League Two after 29 games. Rovers have eight wins, five draws and 16 losses, leaving them on 29 points, equal with those just in safety outside of the relegation zone.

In their last five games in all competitions, Doncaster have one win, one draw and three losses.

Despite having five shots on target in comparison to Newport’s one shot on target and playing out a goalless 90 minutes, Seb Palmer-Houlden popped up with a goal in the 93rd minute to give Newport the 1 - 0 win. The Third Round of the Football League Trophy saw Doncaster host Wigan. Charlie Wyke gave Wigan the early lead but Owen Bailey equalised for Doncaster in the second half, sending the tie to penalties. Jordan Jones and Charlie Hughes both missed for Wigan giving Doncaster the 4 - 2 win.

Back in League Two, Doncaster took on Stockport. Harrison Biggins did get on the scoresheet but a brace from Paddy Madden, goals from Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Isaac Olaofe and an own goal from Bailey gave Stockport the 5 - 1 win. The Quarter-final of the Football League Trophy saw a clash against Bradford City. Harry Chapman scored the only goal of the game to give Bradford the 1 - 0 win despite having Andy Cook sent off late on.

The last time out for Doncaster was against Sutton United. Craig Eastmond gave Sutton the lead in the closing stages but a 96th minute penalty from Joe Ironside grabbed a 1 - 1 draw for Doncaster.

Tranmere Rovers sit just above in 16th in League Two. In 30 games, Rovers have 11 wins, four draws and 15 losses which leaves them on 37 points, just three points from the top half of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Tranmere have two wins, one draw and two losses.

Halftime against Notts County saw the game at 2 - 2 with Kieron Morris and Connor Jennings on the scoresheet for Tranmere and Aaron Nemane and Macaulay Langstaff scoring for Notts County. In the second half, Jennings scored again and was joined on the scoresheet by Harvey Read Saunders for a 4 - 2 win for Tranmere. The next time out saw Dean Campbell score the only goal of the game in the 80th minute to give Barrow the 1 - 0 win over Tranmere.

Alex Gilbey gave MK Dons the lead in the ninth minute but Morris equalised just three minutes later. However, Ellis Harrison grabbed a goal in the 96th minute to give MK Dons the 2 - 1 win. Tranmere took the lead against Grimsby through Rob Apter but Doug Tharme equalised before halftime. A Toby Mullarkey own goal in the second half gave Tranmere the 2 - 1 win.

The most recent outing for Tranmere was against Crewe Alexandra. Tranmere were unable to register a single shot on target in the 0 - 0 draw.

This will be the 80th meeting between Doncaster and Tranmere, with the first meeting coming back in 1924. Doncaster have the better record in the fixture with 39 wins in comparison to Tranmere’s 20 wins, with the other 20 games ending in a draw.
