Gillingham vs Doncaster Prediction, Tips & Stats

Gillingham will be aiming to gain some separation between themselves and the ensuing relegation scrap at the bottom of League Two as they are set to host Doncaster at Priestfield Stadium on Good Friday.

The home side currently find themselves in 19th position in League Two, having amassed 44 points from their 39 league games so far this season. The Gills are currently nine points above the relegation zone and a win here would all but guarantee their safety.

Gillingham come into this weekend on the back of an impressive run of form which has seen Neil Harris’ side win three of their last five league outings. This run has included impressive victories over the likes of Carlisle, Crewe and Tranmere.

Last time out, Gillingham hearts were broken as they conceded a 94th-minute goal to see all three points go to Barrow. The Gills looked to have rescued a point when Conor Masterson headed home an equaliser in the 82nd minute. But a Robbie Gotts screamer in the fourth minute of additional time handed Neil Harris’ side a defeat.

After a poor run of results, Doncaster find themselves in 12th place in the league. Rovers look destined for another season in League Two as they are currently 16 points above the relegation zone and 12 points below the playoff places.

Doncaster come into this weekend on the back of their worst run of form of the season which has seen them gain just one win from their last nine league outings. Rovers have lost their past two games against Northampton and Crewe, whilst failing to score on either occasion.

Last time out, Doncaster were comfortably beaten by Crewe, a side who were yet to record an away win this season. First-half goals from Courtney Baker-Richardson and Connor O’Riordan proved enough for Crewe to gain all three points at the Eco-Power stadium. Danny Schofield will have to try to instil some confidence into his side ahead of this weekend’s matchup.

These sides have met on 71 occasions in their histories, with Gillingham having won 36, Doncaster having won 15 and there being 20 draws. The highest-scoring meeting of these two sides came in League One in 2018, where the game finished 3-3.

It was Doncaster who recorded a slender home victory when these sides met earlier on in the campaign in the reverse fixture. The only goal of the game came in the 60th minute when Harrison Biggins found the back of the Gillingham net.

Despite being below Doncaster in the table, it is Gillingham who are heavily favoured at the bookies ahead of this matchup and are currently priced @ ⅘, whilst an away victory for Doncaster is currently priced @ 7/2 and a draw is @ 23/10.

We are backing Doncaster to win and under 3.5 goals @ 41 as this is often a tight affair that could go either way. All of the last six meetings of these sides have been decided by one goal or less and although Gillingham come into this match on the back of a good run of form, we think 7/2 is a good price for a Doncaster win.

              Gillingham Team News

Neil Harris has no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of this weekend’s matchup. Harris may make changes to the attacking line of Tom Nichols and Tristan Abrahams who were both substituted during Gillinghams defeat to Barrow.

              Doncaster Team News

Charlie Lakin is set to miss the rest of the season for Rovers after he was forced off during the win over Wimbledon. Aside from this, Danny Schofield does not have any further injury concerns ahead of this weekend.
