Gillingham vs Tranmere Prediction, Tips & Stats

Gillingham will be aiming to create more distance between themselves and the ensuing relegation battle at the bottom of the Football League as they host Tranmere Rovers at Priestfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Hosts currently find themselves nine points above the relegation zone in 21st place in the League Two table. With 12 games left in the campaign, the Gills are far from safety and need to pick up points from their upcoming games to ensure that they do not get dragged into a relegation scrap.

Neil Harris side come into this tie on the back of an impressive run of form which has seen the Gills only lose one of their last six league outings, gaining 11 points in the process. Gillingham were in action on Tuesday evening as they made the trip to face promotion-chasing Stockport County.

The Gills offered no threat as an attacking force on a frustrating night for Stockport, who hit the woodwork twice. Stockport went close when Will Collar rose to meet Ryan Rydel's cross, only to see his looping header drift off target. A resilient defensive display ensured that their clean sheet was retained as the game ended 0-0.

Priestfield Stadium has been a happy stomping ground for Gillingahm lately, with the Gills having won four of their last five games at home. Neil Harris will be hoping that his side can gain another vital three points at Priestfield Stadium this weekend.

Tranmere’s playoff ambitions are hanging by a thread as they currently sit in 12th place in the League Two table, eight points behind Salford who currently occupy 7th position. Micky Mellon’s side have been struggling away from home recently and have only recorded one win in their last five league games away from home.

Last time out, Tranmere were held to a draw at home against relegation-threatened Hartlepool United. Callum Cooke’s opener late in the first-half saw Rovers behind at half-time before Hawkes’ leveller versus his old club secured a share of the points.

Gillingham have not faced Tranmere at home since the 2013/14 League One campaign, where goals from Bradley Dack and Cody McDonald led the Gils to a 2-0 victory.

Tranmere eased to victory when these sides met earlier on in the campaign in the reverse fixture. A first half Elliot Nevitt strike was followed up by second half goals from Ethan Bristow and Josh Dacres-Cogley as Rovers cruised to a 3-0 victory over a lacklustre Gillingham side.

This was Tranmere's largest ever Football League victory over Gillingham, in what was their 36th such meeting.
These sides are almost inseparable at the bookies ahead of this weekend however, it is Gillingham who are narrowly favoured @ 8/5, whilst an away win for Tranmere is currently priced @ 9/5.

We are backing Gillingahm to win to nil as they come into this game on the back of an impressive run of results at home. Throughout the season, both teams have only scored in 36.4% of these sides games and we believe that Gillingham have every chance of keeping a clean sheet here.

              Gillingham Team News

Robbie McKenzie is likely to return to the Gillingham squad ahead of this weekend. Manager Neil Harris admits they have missed the versatility of a player mostly used as a full-back but capable of operating right across the park.

              Tranmere Team News

Tranmere have not reported any new injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s clash. After netting in Tranmere's last league game, Josh Hawkes is an almost certainty to start out wide for Rovers once more. Kane Hemmings will face a late fitness test after missing last weekend through injury.
