Salford vs Colchester Prediction, Tips & Stats

Salford will be aiming to strengthen their bid for a place in the playoffs as they are set to host Colchester United at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After recording a dramatic victory on Easter Monday, Salford now find themselves just inside the playoff places in 7th position in the League Two table. The Ammies leapfrogged Mansfield in the table, however, they are still just one point above the Stags.

Neil Wood’s side has a relatively easy run in, as four of their next games are against teams who are currently in the bottom half of the table. This includes fixtures against Hartlepool and Gillingham who are fighting for Football league survival.

Callum Hendry's stoppage time double completed a stunning Salford fightback to beat AFC Wimbledon 3-2 in a pulsating League Two clash at Plough Lane on Monday. After having a penalty saved in the 90th minute by Nathan Broome, it looked like it would not be Hendry's day, but incredibly he found the back of the net twice to claim a hugely important win in their fight for promotion.

Colchester are still well and truly embroiled in a relegation scrap at the bottom of the Football League. The U’s are currently sitting in 20th position in the table and are just four points above Crawley, who are sitting in 23rd position in the league.

Ben Garner’s side comes into this game on the back of an impressive run of form which has seen the U’s go undefeated in their last five league outings, however, their results have been plagued with draws, having drawn four of these games.

On Easter Monday, Colchester recorded their largest win of the campaign yet as they put four past Crewe. The U’s were up by three at halftime thanks to a John Akinde brace and a Noah Chilvers strike. Samson Tovide added a fourth early on in the second period as Colchester gained a vital three points in their bid for survival.

Colchester have dominated this fixture’s relatively short history, having only lost one of the seven meetings between the two sides. Since the sides first met in December 2019, the Us have won four games, there have been two draws and Salford have won just once.

Salford were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw when these sides met in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Salford took the lead in the 49th minute thanks to Conor McAleny, who nodded in from close range from Ryan Watson’s assist.

However, it did not take long for Colchester to find a reply as they equalised in the 63rd minute when substitute Fiacre Kelleher headed in from close range. Neither side could find a winner as it ended 1-1.

Unsurprisingly, given the respective league positions of these sides, it is Salford who are odds on favourites ahead of this clash and are currently priced @ ⅚, whilst an away win for Colchester is priced @ 16/5 and a draw is @ 12/5.

We are backing Salford to win and Both Teams to Score because ten of the Ammies' last eleven league games have resulted in both teams having scored. We believe that Salford will come into this game full of confidence following their dramatic win last time out.

            Salford Team News

Neil Wood does not have any new injury concerns to contend with ahead of this weekend. Callum Hendry will lead the Ammies attacking line after he scored a brace against Wimbledon on Monday.

            Colchester Team News

Colchester have not reported any new injury concerns ahead of this weekend. Ben Garner is unlikely to ring the changes to the side that thrashed Crewe last time out, with John Aknide and Samson Tovide leading the U’s attacking line.
