Stockport will be looking for a return to winning ways as they welcome Doncaster Rovers to Edgeley Park in Sky Bet League Two.
The Hatters have been flying in the league recently and have climbed up the League Two table into 5th place. However, the top half of the table is very congested and only seven points are separating Stockport from Tranmere who occupy 12th place in the league.
Dave Challinor’s side have earned 15 points out of the last 18 which have been available and have notched up impressive wins against the likes of Stevenage and Tranmere. However, last weekend, Barrow were able to end Stockport’s winning run with a 1-0 home victory.
The visitors currently occupy 13th place in the League Two table, having picked up 46 points from their 32 league games so far this campaign. Doncaster started February impressively, having recorded three successive wins against Tranmere, Swindon, and Barrow.
However, Doncaster have not ended February in such vain, having suffered back-to-back defeats against Bradford and Sutton. In both instances, Rovers failed to score as they were defeated 1-0 and 2-0. Doncaster will have a tough task scoring this weekend as they face a Stockport side that has only conceded twice in their past three outings.
Doncaster have struggled away from home as of late, having lost four of their last five away matches in the league. A trip to Edgeley Park looks like a particularly intimidating prospect given the fact that the Hatters have not lost at home since mid-November, where they were defeated by the league leaders, Leyton Orient.
In the reverse fixture at the start of the campaign, Doncaster were able to take advantage of an early Stockport red card. Macaulay Southam-Hales was controversially dismissed after 21 minutes for an off-the-ball incident with Tommy Rowe. It didn't take long for Doncaster to make the advantage count as George Miller put them ahead in the 37th minute.
The Hatters looked to have rescued a point when substitute Ryan Rydel drew them level early on in the second period. However, in the second minute of added time, Agard slid a shot through the legs of Vitezslav Jaros to seal the win.
After receiving five red cards in the opening half of the season, Stockport have improved their disciplinary record and have not seen red since mid-October. This is undoubtedly a factor in their recent form and the Stockport faithful will be confident of a victory this weekend barring any lapses in discipline.
Despite three consecutive defeats in this fixture, Stockport are heavily favoured ahead of this clash and are currently priced @ 3/5, whilst an away win for Doncaster is priced @ 9/2. Stockport striker Kyle Wootton is the favourite to score in the game @ 13/8.
We are backing Will Collar to score and Stockport to Win @ 4/1 as he has been in terrific form in recent weeks. Collar is the Hatters top scorer having netted 12 times in the league so far this campaign. The midfielder is currently in his most prolific run of this season, having scored five in Stockport’s last six outings.
