Gander Green Lane is the venue for an exciting League Two clash on Saturday afternoon as Sutton United are set to host Colchester, with the game set to kick off at 15:00.
The hosts are currently sitting in 24th position in the League Two table, having gained just 22 points from their 33 league games. Unless there is a drastic change in results for Sutton, they look to be exiting the Football League and they are currently seven points away from safety.
Sutton come into this weekend’s game on the back of a terrible run of form that has seen the U’s gain just one point from their last league games and having non recorded a win in their last eleven league games.
Since the appointment of Steve Morison, Sutton have failed to win any of their eight league games, picking up four points along the way with draws against barrow, Mansfield, Walsall and Doncaster; last weekend, they lost 1-0 to Bradford City at Valley Parade.
Colchester currently find themselves in 21st position in the League Two table, having gained 30 points from their 32 league games this season. Colchester are by no means safe as there is just a seven point gap between themselves and the drop zone.
The U’s were unfortunate to not take all three points in the last action, with Danny Cowley’s side conceding a late equaliser against Accrington Stanley at the JobServe Community Stadium at the weekend.
Colchester and Sutton have met on seven occasions, with the first meeting of the two sides gaving come in the FA Cup in 2005. Sutton have the much better record in this fixture, having won 5 games compared to just one win in this fixture for Colchester.
Omar Sowunmi returned to haunt his old club with a stoppage-time equaliser as Sutton claimed a draw at Colchester when these sides met earlier on in the season in teh reverse fixture. Sowunmi fired into the roof of the net in the fifth minute of stoppage-time to earn the visitors a point after Harry Smith's lay-off from Christian N'Guessan's free-kick into the box.
Despite their poor run heading into this game, it is Sutton who are currently favoured at the bookies and are priced @ 5/4, whilst an away win for Colchester is priced @ 19/10 and a draw is @ 12/5.
We are backing Sutton to win and BTTS because in recent years, Colchester have never taken anything away from a trip to Gander Green Lane. Suton have won all three matches between the sides that have taken place at Gander Green Lane and both teams have scored on two occasions.
