Swindon vs Mansfield Prediction, Tips & Stats

Swindon Town and Mansfield Town are looking to make a huge leap towards establishing themselves as playoff contenders this weekend when they clash at the County Ground with both teams currently sitting outside of the top seven.

Ahead of this battle, Mansfield are the one closer to the playoff positions with them into eighth in the table after a fantastic 4-1 win Crawley Town. Ollie Clarke scored after just four minutes that day with Alfie Kilgour netting two minutes into the second half before KD Davis scored twice in the second half to make it 4-0. A late goal ruined the clean sheet for Mansfield, but with 11 shots on target from 27 efforts towards goal, the club can be pleased about their return to the win column in convincing style.

The 4-1 win also puts Mansfield on a four-game unbeaten run after drawing 1-1 with Stockport County and drawing 0-0 with Sutton United and Grimsby Town.

The men from Field Mill have now won 17 games and drawn 10 with 59 goals scored and sit behind Salford City in seventh by three points. At the same time, they have a game in hand over the seventh-placed side, so a win here and a victory in their game in hand would rocket them right into the playoff spots once more.

Things are a lot bleaker for Swindon, as they sit 10 points behind the eighth-placed Mansfield. A loss here would all but end their hopes of a spot in the playoffs as it would force them potentially 15 points behind with just seven games left on the board - no side in League Two history has overturned a points deficit this high.

Swindon have also lost their past two games since their stunning 4-4 draw away to Rochdale, as Jody Morris' men lost 1-0 to Stockport County and then 2-1 to the relegation-threatened Hartlepool United.

          Mansfield team news

Rhys Oates and Jason Law missed the starting XI last time out and should feature in it here. Stephen Quinn will come into this game after missing the past few due to a suspension picked up against Northampton. Stephen McLaughlin is still out injured, however.

          Swindon team news

Jacob Wakeling received a straight red card just one minute into the game against Stockport a few weeks back and he remains suspended for this game here. Ronan Darcy has missed the past two games and should come in here, and we should see Charlie Austin start once more after coming off late in the game against Hartlepool
