Tranmere take the trip to the Bescot Stadium this weekend, where they will look to overcome Walsall. This fixture has seen very little goal-mouth action recently, with this exact game last season ending in a 1-0 win to the visitors.
Walsall
After 20 games in League Two this season, Walsall currently sits in 16th place with 24 points. The Saddlers’ biggest issue this season has been in the final third, with the team only scoring an average of 1.3 goals per game, the joint sixth worst record in the league. They’ve also conceded 1.6 goals on average per game, highlighting that the side have failed to perform at both ends of the field.
Having said that, Walsall picked up a hugely impressive 2-1 away victory over Notts County last time out in League Two. The visitors were priced as high as 7/2 to win the game, but a second half Oisin McEntee brace secured the win.
Tranmere
Tranmere have been in excellent form recently, which has turned their season around. They’re unbeaten in their last five matches, winning three of those, which has boosted their points tally to 21, the same as their table standing. The Rovers have conceded 1.62 goals per game on average this campaign, whilst scoring just 1.38.
However, that wasn’t on show last weekend, as Tranmere secured their latest three points with a 2-1 home victory against Newport. The hosts conceded early on but completed the comeback in the second half via goals from Kieron Morris and Connor Jennings.
Verdict?
Walsall have played nine games at home this season, winning three but only losing two. Tranmere are awful on the road, failing to win any of their ten away games, but they’re unbeaten in their last two.
Both teams go into the tie off the back of an excellent win.
The final prediction is Walsall 1-1 Tranmere.
