Two sides in the bottom four of Ligue 1 will meet on the final day of the season with Nantes set to play hosts to Angers with the away side already down and out in the French top flight.
Despite Angers being relegated for a number of weeks, this game still has great importance to it with Nantes still fighting for everything in Ligue 1. In fact, a few weeks ago, this game would have meant something for both sides, but Angers have put together the worst run of form this season across Europe's top five leagues.
Angers are sitting with just 18 points in the league and only Elche in La Liga and Sampdoria in Serie A come near to this awful record in Europe's top five divisions this season. The club did, however, manage to end its six-game unbeaten run since beating Lille after securing all three points at home to Troyes last time out.
Himad Abdelli scored in the first half before Lillian Rao-Lisoa scored in the final few seconds of the game to secure all three points for the last-placed Ligue 1 side. It was just their fourth win of the season, however, with them also losing 27 times this campaign.
Prior to this, Angers lost to Marseille, Rennes, Monaco, Clermont Foot and PSG in Ligue 1 with them also drawing with Reims two weeks back.
As for Nantes, if they are to survive in Ligue 1 this season, they must win and hope that Auxerre lose their game. The gap is currently two points on Auxerre in 16th and they must not collect all three points to survive. They can still win and see Auxerre draw because of their inferior goals difference tally, but Nantes cannot afford to lose or draw themselves or they will be in Ligue 2 next season.
At the same time as this dreadful run of form, the club have also lost the French Cup final this past month after a 5-1 mauling from Toulouse.
