Players Who Never Missed a Penalty

Getting the ball in the back of the net from 12 yards is pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and those who take them consistently down the years have seen many penalties converted to boast conversion rates in the high 90s.

Matt Le Tiiser (98%) missed only one penalty throughout his career as he bagged 48 of his 49 attempts. The likes of Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo have seen their goals ratio jump leaps and bounds through consistent penalties, but is there anyone out there who has not missed a penalty?

Of course, you can take two or three and leave with a 100% record, so for the sake of this argument, we've cut it down to the players who have never missed a penalty from at least 10 attempts.

Yaya Toure (15)

Although not known entirely for his spot kicks as he only took 11, Yaya Toure remains the most lethal man from 12 yards from a statistical point of view as he converted all 15 penalties in his eight years at Manchester City. The likes of Sergio Aguero kept him from increasing this tally, but as players like Le Tissier proved, the more you take, no matter how good you are, the writing is on the wall for a miss eventually.

Toure took a few here and there for City, including a winner against West Bromwich Albion as his first, and his last for City being in a Premier League win over West Ham.

Including 11 league games, one for his country and three in the domestic cup competitions in England, Toure retired with a 100% record from the spot, and the only crazy thing here is how he was only ever allowed to take 15 when he clearly was not too shabby from 12 yards.

Ivan Krstanović (30+)

According to UEFA, by all accounts, Ivan Krstanović never missed a penalty in his career, as he told UEFA.com that "it's at least 30 goals" from the spot for the Croatian.

"If I told everyone my technique it wouldn't be a secret any more, would it?" he echoed to them. So, whatever he did worked because with a record of at least 30 goals scored from the spot, Krstanović might just be the best to ever do it from 12 yards because not many on this list boasts much more consistency.

At 6ft 5, the striker has netted a variety of goals and got plenty of them down the years, but it's his perfection from the penalty spot gets the attention here.

Ovidiu Herea (38)

Romanian attacking midfielder Ovidiu Herea has a brilliant goalscoring record and he has been one of the continent's most prolific from midfield over the last 20 years in the lesser divisions. In fact, throughout Herea's career, he has netted over 100 goals from midfield across many different clubs.

Herea has stated how he use to always spend extra time taking penalties even before his professional career as he knew this was a way of standing out from the rest and upping his goals for the season.

His record of 19 conversions from 19 for FC Național București and FC Rapid București almost ended in 2012 when Răzvan Pleșca saved his effort against CS Gaz Metan Mediaș. However, the referee ordered a retake, which the midfielder put away to keep up this 100% record. How's your luck!?

Herea has since gone on to score 19 more in his career and boasts a 100% ratio right now.

Vladislav Stoyanov (24*)

There are players like Herea who have got lucky and players such as him have got away with a lack of official data here and there which sometimes is quite generous to them and they get away with a penalty miss every now and then.

This was the case with Vladislav Stoyanov, who scored 24 from 24 top-flight penalties in the 1980s and 1990s with PFC Chernomorets Burgas and PFC Lokomotiv Sofia. However, he admitted he missed one for Chernomorets in the second division, but data back then never tallied up the Russian second tier, so on an official basis, he netted 24 from 24 but if he is honest, it's 24 from 25.

Stoyanov mastered the delayed kick, as he waited for the keeper to move first and slotted the ball the other way.

Ledio Pano (50+)

Midfielder Ledio Pano is one of the only players in football history to take over 40 penalties and score every single one of them. The likes of Herea can be debated with a lack of official data, while players like Rickie Lambert and Le Tissier ended up missing towards the end of their careers.

However, according to UEFA, Pano boasted a 100% record in over 50 penalties in his career in Albania and Greece. "I never looked the keeper in the eye. I always just knew where I was going to put the ball," Pano told UEFA.

There can be no two ways about it: Pano is the best to ever do it on a statistical basis. He officially holds the world record for 50 from 50!
