Nantes and Montpellier will battle it out in the bottom half of Ligue 1 this weekend with the home side fighting for their life in France's top flight with them moving into the bottom four in the past two weeks.
It's been a dreadful season for Nantes and they now head into this game knowing that unless they match or better Auxerre's results in the next few weeks, they will be back in Ligue 2. Worse yet for Nantes, they also head into this game having lost their French Cup final to Toulouse in stunning style at the start of May.
The club were beaten 5-1 by Toulouse and were 4-0 down after only 34 minutes in the game in what was their attempt to defend the French Cup after last year's heroics.
Nantes are also now a point adrift of Auxerre in 16th having lost to Brest in a must-win battle down in the bottom five at the start of the month.
They also went on to lose 2-0 to Strasbourg shortly after that and drew with Toulouse away from home in their last outing. Nantes will also meet with Lille in the final three games of the season and conclude their campaign with a match at home to the already-relegated Angers.
As for Montpellier, they are plodding to the end of the season with a gap of 11 points on Nantes in the bottom four meaning they are safe for another year. The club have won 13 times and lost 17 this season with them scoring 57 times and letting in 58 goals too.
They incredibly smashed fourth-placed Monaco away from home in a 4-0 victory a few weeks back but they were beaten 5-4 in arguably the game of the season two weeks ago, as Lyon came from behind to win. Montpellier also drew 1-1 with Lorient in the last outing.
