Lyon vs Monaco Prediction, Tips & Stats

Lyon and Monaco will meet in a huge battle for the European spots in Ligue 1 this season with the two battling for a spot in the Europa League after topsy-turvy runs of form in the past two months.

Lyon are coming into this one after suffering another defeat. Clermont Foot beat them 2-1 at home which also saw Alexandre Lacazette get another goal as he continues to battle with Kylian Mbappe to win the top scorer award. His goal was not enough, however, and Lyon remain seventh in the league with just 16 victories on the board.

The club are sitting behind Lille in fifth by just one point and also have a nine-point gap on Monaco in fourth. It does mean a spot in fourth is very unlikely for Lyon, but they do still have the chance to jump into fifth and return to Europe after missing out on European action this season.

Prior to their loss to Clermont, Lyon did manage to stun Montpellier 5-4 which saw Lacazette score four times. They also beat Strasbourg before that, while also beating Rennes, Toulouse and Paris Saint-Germain in the capital.

As for Monaco, they are now eight behind the top three and are unlikely to be back in the Champions League for next season. Monaco drew 0-0 with Lille last time out, as they also beat Lorient and Angers throughout the past month too. However, they were stunned 4-0 at home by Montpellier, as they also lost 3-0 to Lens.

            Lyon team news

Alexandre Lacazette scored again last time out to keep up his fight for the top scorer award in France and he will lead the line alongside Sarr once more. Ryan Cherki should start behind him, as Corentin Tolisso also stays in midfield alongside, Niclas Tagliafico, Caqueret and Gusto. The back three of Lukeba, Dejan Lovren and Diomande should all remain. Moussa Dembele did miss the last game, but he should start once more, as Houssem Aouar also plays at some stage.

            Monaco team news

Breel Embolo made a return in the last match with Lille and started on the bench. He likely does the same in this one, with Maghnes Akliouche and Eliesse Ben Seghir playing at some stage too. Wissam Ben Yedder continues to be a huge miss for Monaco and he will miss this game with injury. Takumi, Golovin and Jakobs likely start in the attacking midfield spots with Boadu up top.
