Rennes vs. Monaco Prediction, Tips & Stats

Two sides chasing European football for next season meet in Ligue 1 this weekend as Rennes face Monaco.

Rennes currently sit 6th in Ligue 1 with nineteen wins, five draws and twelve losses from thirty-six games this season.

It's been a solid season for a promising Rennes side this time and they could yet cap it all off if they manage to force their way into the top five in the next two games.

They're coming into this game in decent form having won three of their last five games, the most recent of which was a 5-0 hammering of Ajaccio away from home.

The win over Ajaccio was Rennes' second on the bounce, with those two wins coming by a combined scoreline of 9-0.

Their form at home has been very strong of late too, with Rennes winning their last three consecutive home games by a combined scoreline of 11-2.

Rennes are just one point behind Lille in 5th and three points behind Monaco in 4th with a superior goal difference to both sides, so if they take six points from their final two games there's a very realistic chance they'll find themselves in the Europa League Group Stage next season.

Monaco currently sit 4th in Ligue 1 with nineteen wins, eight draws and nine losses from thirty-six games this season.

It's been a solid season for Monaco this time out as they find themselves in pole position to secure qualification straight to the Europa League Group Stage next season.

They do appear to be losing form at the worst possible time, however, as they enter this game having won just one of their last five matches.

Their most recent game saw them firmly beaten 3-1 away at Lyon in a fairly concerning performance.

They now enter what is a game of huge importance without any momentum and in a seemingly vulnerable state.

Their form away from home is slightly more encouraging with Monaco having won two of their last five on the road, but with those two wins coming against already relegated sides and having also lost two of their last three away games there is clearly an asterisk on that run of form.

These two sides drew 1-1 when they met back in August but the dynamics appear much different here with the home side entering the game in better shape.

It'll likely be a competitive encounter but we can't help but favour Rennes in this one.

For our Rennes vs. Monaco prediction, we're going for a 2-1 win for the home side.

              Rennes Team News

Rennes will be without Xeka, Adrien Truffert, Martin Terrier and Romain Salin for this one while Désiré Doué and Birger Meling are both doubtful.

Manager Bruno Génésio will likely stick with the same starting XI that hammered Ajaccio last time out.

              Monaco Team News

Gelson Martins, Malang Sarr and Myron Boadu are all doubtful while Jean Lucas is out.

Ruben Aguilar and Kevin Holland are both pushing to start here.
