Troyes welcomes Nice at the Stade de l'Aube this Sunday, with Nice looking to finish in the top half of the table, whereas Troyes are looking to keep their hopes alive in an attempt to dramatically avoid relegation from Ligue 1.
Troyes are almost certain to be relegated from Ligue 1 as they sit ten points adrift from safety and have only won one game in 2023. Patrick Kisnorbo’s men have failed to win in their last five games in the Ligue 1, their last game in March was a 2-2 draw against Brest at home. Troyes were 2-1 up going into half time, however, they conceded a penalty in the 73rd minute; the penalty was converted by Romain Del Castillo to make sure of the draw.
Kisnorbo's side have only picked a point in their first four games in April. Their only point in April came against Nantes last weekend. Despite being 1-0 down at half time, Troyes got back into it with a 64th-minute penalty, scored by their top goal scorer, Mama Balde. Troyes thought they had won it when they scored in the 92nd minute, only to concede four minutes later from a long throw into the box, which eventually fell to Evann Guessand on his right foot.
ESTAC lost 1-0 to Auxerre in a crucial game in the relegation fight. The only goal in the match came from Auxerre's top goal scorer M'Baye Niang. Niang came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 73rd minute, which Nuno De Costa assisted.
Their other two losses in April were a 2-0 defeat to Clermont Foot and a 3-1 defeat to Marseille, who outplayed them on the night.
For OGC Nice, it has been a season to forget. After finishing fifth in the Ligue 1 last season, Nice hoped to build from that and challenge for Champions League places, however, Nice’s participation in the Europa Conference League has resulted in their poor run of form in the league; this is because the team has been unable to rotate their squad as they lack quality from within the squad.
Like Troyes, Nice have failed to win in their last five games in the league. Nice hasn't won a game in the league since their 3-0 win against Monaco in February.
The INEOS-owned club have drawn their last two matches by 1-1 scorelines. The first draw was against Lorent at home, with a 77th-minute equalizer from their striker Gaetan Laborde. Their second 1-1 draw was against the bottom-of-the-table Angers.
Nice have lost their last three games in the Ligue 1, losing 2-0 at home against PSG due to goals from Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos securing PSG three points. The other two losses came against Brest with the game finishing 1-0 via an early goal from Jeremy Le Douaron. Their most recent defeat was against Clermont Foot, the final score in that game saw them lose 2-1.
These recent results put Nice currently in tenth place. With six games left and nothing to play for, Didier Digard's team can start to focus on next season.
After getting knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League against FC Basel in midweek, Digard's side can now focus on finishing in the top half of the table.
Troyes have won three times in their last 14 meetings with Nice. However, Nice are expected to defeat Troyes as they sit 23 points above their opponents.
