Two sides riding high following brilliant results in their respective previous matches on the road, meet at Sincil Bank this weekend, when Lincoln City host Cambridge United.
It has been a great start to 2022 for Lincoln. After not playing on New Year’s Day, their first match of the year came last weekend and it saw them record an impressive 2-0 win over promotion-chasers Oxford United. Their trip to the Stadium of the Light on Tuesday was a monumental effort too. With a threadbare squad at present, the Imps went to title-challengers Sunderland and won 3-1, with former-Black Cats striker Chris Maguire scoring a remarkable hattrick, moving them from the relegation zone, to 16th in the space of four days.
Cambridge’s week was not too bad either, overcoming odds of 14/1 to knock Newcastle United out of the FA Cup at St. James’ Park on Saturday, marking one of the most memorable occasions in the club’s history. Joe Ironside’s goal has set the U’s up with a fourth round tie at home to Luton Town, opening up the possibility of them progressing even further. However, for the time being, they have five league matches to focus on as they aim to distance themselves from the League One relegation zone, which they currently sit four points above. A run of three games without a league win has dragged them into the battle against the drop slightly, mainly due to the recent resurgence of Fleetwood Town, but all of their matches before the FA Cup fourth round see them facing sides in around them in the table, so they must take advantage in these big six-pointers.
Lincoln were rampant when the sides met at the Abbey Stadium earlier in the season, leaving Cambridge with all three points thanks to an impressive 5-1 win, in which Anthony Scully scored twice and assisted the other three. Cambridge are without a win in the last six meetings between the sides, and have won only once here in eight attempts.
With both sides feeling similar emotions following a positive week, we expect this to be a close-fought affair. Our tip is a draw with both teams to score, priced at 7/2.
