Vancouver Whitecaps and Cincinnati are set to meet in MLS after midweek victories for either side with the Ohio outfit set to stay top of the Eastern Conference regardless of results this weekend in what is turning out to be a sensational season.
Cincinnati are into the last four of the U.S. Open Cup after a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh Riverhounds at home. It now puts the club in an incredible position after just over three months of action in the United States to capture the MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield with them eight clear of Nashville in second of the Eastern Conference.
The only major concern for Cincinnati in terms of winning both titles is how Los Angeles have three games in hand on them and sit just 13 points behind. This could bring the defending MLS champions to within four points over time.
Regardless of that, Cincinnati are sitting top of the table and into the last four of the cup by losing just one game so far from 19 outings. That defeat, however, was in a stunning 5-1 battering from the Western Conference leaders, St. Louis City.
As for Vancouver, they defeated Montreal in the Canadian Championship final in midweek thanks to a goal each from Ryan Gauld and Brian White. It also puts the club on a three-game unbeaten run after defeating Houston Dynamo 6-2 the other week.
