Vancouver Whitecaps vs Cincinnati Prediction, Tips & Stats

Vancouver Whitecaps and Cincinnati are set to meet in MLS after midweek victories for either side with the Ohio outfit set to stay top of the Eastern Conference regardless of results this weekend in what is turning out to be a sensational season.

Cincinnati are into the last four of the U.S. Open Cup after a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh Riverhounds at home. It now puts the club in an incredible position after just over three months of action in the United States to capture the MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield with them eight clear of Nashville in second of the Eastern Conference.

The only major concern for Cincinnati in terms of winning both titles is how Los Angeles have three games in hand on them and sit just 13 points behind. This could bring the defending MLS champions to within four points over time.

Regardless of that, Cincinnati are sitting top of the table and into the last four of the cup by losing just one game so far from 19 outings. That defeat, however, was in a stunning 5-1 battering from the Western Conference leaders, St. Louis City.

As for Vancouver, they defeated Montreal in the Canadian Championship final in midweek thanks to a goal each from Ryan Gauld and Brian White. It also puts the club on a three-game unbeaten run after defeating Houston Dynamo 6-2 the other week.

          Cincinnati team news

Cincinnati's incredible run in MLS and the U.S. Open Cup comes off the back of very few injuries in the games too. Yuya Kubo missed the last game, as did Alvas Powell, and the two likely come into the starting XI here. Marco Angulo and Evan Louro are also likely to feature in this match at some stage. Brandon Vazquez was amongst the goals during the week in the Open Cup and he should start once more with Lucas Acosta and Badji in a forward trio. Moreno and Nwobodo should start in midfield too with Santiago Arias set to play too after his goal in the week. Alvaro Barreal also came off the bench to score against the Riverhounds too.

          Vancouver Whitecaps team news

Vancouver's victory in the Canadian Championship final likely brings a few changes to this side after a handful of alterations to their usual MLS side on Wednesday. Deiber Caicedo missed the midweek game and now likely starts here with Sergio Cordova also likely to come into the side here. Luis Martins and Pedro Vite also stayed on the bench during the week and should feature here. Thomas Hasal dropped out of goal for Takaoka and he could come back into the starting XI here. Brian White scored once more in the week and he should start in this one with Ryan Gauld also netting from the penalty spot in the game.
