For our Montpellier vs PSG prediction, we're opting for a 3-1 away victory for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
PSG will look to put icing on the cake on a successful Ligue 1 season when they take on Montpellier in Ligue 1 action this weekend. Les Parisiens have drawn each of their last three league fixtures, and, no doubt, they will give 100% to return to winning ways in the national championship on Saturday evening.
PSG have the perfect opportunity here to break a run of three consecutive draws against lowly Montpellier. The hosts have accrued just two points from the last 21 available to them and their backline have proven extremely fragile in recent games, shipping at least two goals in each of their last four league fixtures, conceding 11 in total. Such a leaky defence should be taken advantage of by the newly crowned French champions and any outcome other than a PSG win by at least two clear goals would be considered a big surprise.
Les Parisiens have failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 of their last 12 away league games, conceding 18 goals across those fixtures, so it would be a minor shock if they blanked the hosts here. We also note that Montpellier have scored at least once in their last four head-to-head meetings with PSG at home that includes last year’s cup semi-final defeat on a penalty-shoot that probably still rankles with the fans and squad.
Both Presnel Kimpembe and Neymar are banned for the match, while all Mauro Icardi, Leandro Paredes, Julian Draxler, Layvin Kurzawa, and Diallo remain in the treatment room. In Neymar’s absence, all eyes will be on duo Messi and Mbappe.
La Paillade, on the other hand, do not seem to be at their sharpest ahead of the visit of PSG. Montpellier collected only one point in total from the previous four league fixtures, and seeing that they have nothing to play for in the season finale, we are tempted to put our money on the newly-promoted champions. The likes of Cabella, Savanier, Ferri, Omlin, and Tamas are injured for the home team.
For our Montpellier vs PSG prediction, we're opting for PSG to win with a -1 handicap.
