Morecambe will be aiming to continue their stunning run away from the relegation zone this weekend when they play hosts to Bristol Rovers at the Mazuma Stadium on Saturday with both clubs losing last time out in League One.
Morecambe were bottom of League One just a few gameweeks ago but they have managed to rocket themselves further away from the relegation zone than they have all season so far. The Shrimps did, however, get on the opposite end of a 4-0 hammering from title-chasing Ipswich Town, as all four goals came in the first half of a battering at Portman Road.
Prior to this, Morecambe did manage to go on a very impressive unbeaten run after Christmas, losing only to Port Vale by a narrow 1-0 scoreline on Boxing Day. Even then, that was forced mainly because they went down to 10 men.
The Shrimps started this run with a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley, as Liam Shaw and Jensen Weir scored against them in a game where they conceded 22 shots. They then smashed Burton Albion 5-0 in one of their best-ever League One results, as Kieran James Phillips scored twice in the game before a Caleb Watts double in the second half of the game. Weir also scored in that game too.
Weir netted another goal as well against Cheltenham Town. Phillips also netted that day too, and it brings their respective tallies to far greater than anyone in the bottom half.
Bristol head into this one off the back of two 2-0 losses in a row. The club were defeated by Accrington Stanley 2-0 last time out in League One and now head into this game with a 2-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle in the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy too. Nevertheless, Joey Barton's men have rocketed up the table in recent weeks after 2-1 wins over Cheltenham Town and Cambridge United, while they also have games in hand on those above them in the table.
