Brentford vs. Tottenham - Prediction

It's likely that this game will make for good viewing as far as the neutral observer is concerned, with over 2.5 goals having been scored in four of Brentford's last five games and all of Tottenham's last five matches.

Brentford are coming off a good win against Crystal Palace, and despite a four-match winless run on home soil, which came against the entire current top four, they've been pretty strong at home. Spurs, though, are winless in their last five games in the Premier League, so we think they'll fall to another defeat here. Brentford 2-1 Tottenham.

Brentford vs. Tottenham: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

Tottenham Hotspur are desperately in need of a win in the Premier League as they take on Brentford this evening.

  • Date: 02/02/2025
  • Kick-off time: 14:00
  • Location: Brentford Community Stadium, West London

Brentford come into this game 11th in the Premier League with 31 points from 23 games. The Bees are having a fine campaign under Thomas Frank as they attempt to secure European football for the first time in the club's history.

The Bees have also been hugely entertaining this season. With 42 goals scored, Thomas Frank's side are fifth highest scorers in the league, while a total of 40 goals conceded has been beaten by only five other teams. Frank will hope that his side will improve their defensive record in the second half of the campaign, as they've proven a very capable defensive side under his management in recent seasons. Having conceded an average of 1.6 goals over their last five games, there are few signs that their leakiness is slowing down.

Still, in Bryan Mbeumo (14) and Yoane Wissa (11), Brentford have two of the top ten goalscorers in the league, so they can make up for their poor defensive showings. Wissa was the subject of a transfer attempt from Nottingham Forest earlier this month, but it looks as though the Bees have managed to fend off that attempt, and the Congolese international will be crucial to their chances of securing European football.

Brentford are particularly strong in front of their own fans, and given how much Spurs have been struggling in recent weeks, they'll feel very confident about their chances here.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently 15th in the Premier League with 24 points from 23 games. This season, at least in terms of their league showings, has been nothing short of a mess. Injury crisis after injury crisis amidst chronically poor showings has Ange Postecoglou's men closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top ten. Back in August, before a ball was kicked, Spurs' current situation would have been unthinkable for many, but a combination of factors has made the North London club arguably the most disappointing team in the league.

As expected, there is a loud and growing anger amongst the Tottenham faithful, with the hostility being aimed in multiple directions. Postecoglou has had a few run-ins with fans, but the bulk of the anger appears to be directed towards Daniel Levy, who is walking on thin ice as far as many Spurs fans are concerned. Postecoglou's defence would be to point towards the team's injury crisis as the major cause of the team's ills, and there's no doubt partial truth in that, but it's also fair to say that the team has underperformed for the most part, relative to the talent on the pitch.

With their Premier League campaign now verging on a lost cause, Tottenham's priority will now be in the League Cup and the Europa League, where they can still win silverware. There are numerous running jokes amongst fans and media members about Spurs' relegation prospects being more realistic than they actually are, and that's likely still the reality, but if they continue to rack up defeats, that prospect may actually become a legitimate concern. A win here would do wonders for them, but it's hard to regard them as the favourites.

Team News

Brentford Team News:

The Bees come into this game with a lengthy injury list, with Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva, Ethan Pinnock, Aaron Hickey, Igor Thiago and Gustavo Nunes all on the sidelines.

Italian youngster Michael Kayode could be in line for his Brentford debut after Mads Roerslev left to Wolfsburg on loan.

Predicted lineup: Flekken; Kayode, Van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Janelt, Nørgaard; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa.

Tottenham Team News:

Spurs' injury list is even larger, with Ange Postecoglou unable to call upon Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, Guglielmo Vicario, Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero.

However, Micky van de Ven should be fit enough to make his return from injury, which is well timed given Radu Drăgușin picked up an injury in the Europa League in midweek.

Predicted lineup: Kinsky; Porro, Gray, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Bissouma, Bergvall; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son.

Brentford vs. Tottenham - Form Guide

Brentford:

Brentford's form is mixed, with the Bees having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five games. Their latest game saw them claim a fine 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, where goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade secured an impressive three points.

Before that, the Bees were beaten 0-2 by Liverpool, which came after a 2-2 draw against Manchester City, where Yoane Wissa and Christian Nørgaard helped mount a late comeback from 0-2 down, and a shock 0-1 loss to Plymouth in the FA Cup.

Those results followed a 5-0 win away at Brentford, courtesy of goals from Schade, Mbeumo (X2), Keane Lewis-Potter and Wissa.

Tottenham:

Tottenham are in a fairly tough run of form, winning two and losing three of their last five games. In the week, a trio of academy products helped Spurs claim a 3-0 win over Elfsborg in the Europa League, where Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore scored the goals.

Prior to that, Spurs fell to a 1-2 loss at home to Leicester City, which was preceded by a 2-3 win over Hoffenheim in the Europa League, thanks to James Maddison and Son Heung-min (X2), and a 3-2 loss to Everton, where late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison were unable to prevent a defeat.

Spurs' other result in their last five games was a 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the North London derby.
