Everton travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley hoping to continue their good run of form following their 10-point deduction last month.
The punishment plunged the Toffees into the relegation zone, but three wins in their last four has seen them climb out of the bottom three. Burnley, in contrast, have had a tough start to life back in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany, winning just two games and sitting 19th, level on points with bottom side Sheffield United.
Both come into the game following positive results, Everton beating Chelsea 2-0 at home, whilst Burnley picked up a point at Brighton. Sean Dyche’s side are looking to extend their winning run to four games. Prior to the points deduction, which was received for violating the league’s profit and sustainability rules, they had won four of 12 and sat eight points from the drop. With their recent results, they have recovered nine points and now sit four points clear of Luton Town who are 17th. There is a lot of positivity surrounding the club due to their recent displays.
At home, it is a good opportunity for the Clarets to pick up some points and gain momentum heading into the busy Christmas period. They will look to do so after their first home win of the season against Sheffield United two weeks ago, a dominant 5-0 victory which snapped a streak of seven consecutive home losses. Their only other win came at the beginning of October when they beat Luton 2-1 at Kenilworth Road.
Dyche will be returning to a ground in which he spent nine-and-a-half seasons in charge. During his time at Turf Moor, he guided the club to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, earning them European status.
There has not been much to split the two sides in the last five meetings, with both winning two each and drawing the other. The last fixture at Turf Moor in 2022 saw a late winner from Maxwel Cornet to steal all three points for Dyche and the Clarets. Frank Lampard was in the opposition dugout that evening. They did meet earlier this season in the League Cup, with Everton knocking out their opponents with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from James Tarkowski, Amadou Onana and Ashley Young.
Goals have been hard to come by for both teams, with 16 on the season for Burnley and 20 for Everton. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has led the line for the Toffees and has bagged four goals, but it is the output of midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure which has been crucial for them. The Malian has scored six goals in 19 appearances so far. Five different players sit on three goals for Burnley, and as a team they have scored more than once on just three occasions, so they will have to be clinical with their chances if they hope to get a positive result.
