Chelsea vs. Newcastle Prediction, Tips & Stats

Champions League bound Newcastle United play their last game of a hugely successful Premier League campaign as they face Chelsea this weekend.

Chelsea currently sit 12th in the Premier League with eleven wins, ten draws and fifteen losses from thirty-seven games this season.

The Blues have had a truly dismal campaign in the Premier League this season and have been the subject of much ridicule considering they gargantuan sums of money new owner Todd Boehly spent on players in the January transfer window.

For a long time now the focus has been on the summer rebuild with Mauricio Pochettino seemingly on the verge of being confirmed as The Blues' new boss.

This game will, then, be Frank Lampard's last game in charge of Chelsea and the former midfielder will be desperate to end his tenure with a win having endured a miserable time as caretaker boss.

It will also be the last game in a Chelsea shirt for a number of long serving players, one of which has already been confirmed in Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

N'Golo Kanté, Mateo Kovacic and Thiago Silva all have their futures in the air so if they are to be leaving Stamford Bridge for good this weekend they'll want to say a heartfelt goodbye no doubt.

This is a tough game for The Blues and one they won't be favourites to win, but even if their collectiveness leaves something to be desired they still have the individual quality to swing games in their favour.

Newcastle United currently sit 3rd in the Premier League with nineteen wins, thirteen draws and five losses from thirty-seven games this season.

Contrary to their opponents Newcastle have had a simply outstanding season having massively exceeded expectations by securing a spot in the Champions League, putting them well ahead of schedule in their development following their fairly recent takeover.

Eddie Howe is one of the top contenders for the manager of the year award having produced an extremely well put together side despite not having made any superstar signings.

They'll be looking to finish the season as strong as possible as they enter this game fairly solid form having won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five games.

Their away form is pretty strong having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five games so they'll fancy themselves to beat a flawed Chelsea side here.

The Magpies beat Chelsea 1-0 when the two sides met back in November and a league double would go down nicely in Tyneside.

For our Chelsea vs Newcastle prediction, we're going for a 2-1 win for the away side.

      Chelsea Team News

Chelsea's injury list is gargantuan as they enter this game without as many as nine players including the likes of Raheem Sterling, Reece James, N'Golo Kanté, Ben Chillwell and Mason Mount.

Mateo Kovacic is also a doubt with the Croatian potentially having played his last game for the club.

      Newcastle Team News

Newcastle are also set to be without as many as seven first-team players with the likes of Joelinton, Joe Willock and Nick Pope all absent.

Martin Dúbravka, Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson are all expected to start here.
