Crystal Palace vs Brentford Prediction

The recent upturn in form shown by Crystal Palace should give them the edge over a Brentford side who have struggled away from home this season.

The Eagles are unbeaten in their previous six games in all competitions, having won their last three consecutive games following their 2-0 win against fellow London rivals West Ham United, and even more impressively, they have kept three successive clean sheets.

Brentford's away record leaves them at a disadvantage for this game, with only one win on the road in the Premier League against Southampton (0-5) and seven losses from ten away from home in the league. Neither side has kept a clean sheet in this fixture in the last five meetings, with both teams scoring in the last five also.

That being said, with Crystal Palace in form and Brentford struggling away from home, we are leaning towards a 2-1 victory for the Eagles.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Brentford

Crystal Palace vs Brentford Preview & Prediction

Crystal Palace face their second London Derby in the space of seven days, as Brentford make the trip across the city to Selhurst Park.

Date: 26/01/2025
Location: Selhurst Park, London.
Kick-Off: 2 pm

Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side are starting to show some resemblance to the form that served them so well towards the end of last season. During the earlier months of the season, questions were raised regarding the tenure of the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager, as his Crystal Palace side were struggling towards the bottom of the Premier League table. After recent results, the Eagles have allowed the likes of Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta to rediscover their form, to which Crystal Palace are now pushing towards a top half finish.

The Eagles are currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League, only a point behind Brentford, meaning a win for Crystal Palace would move them ahead of Brentford and as high as 11th. A defeat could move the home side, further down the league table and potentially into 14th.

As for Brentford, the Bees look on course to record yet another mid-table finish in the Premier League this season. Thomas Frank’s side have shown they are more than capable of facing the toughest opponents in the league and gaining results, amplified by their 2-2 draw against Manchester City. The Bees are 11th in the Premier League and a win would move them two points behind Fulham, should Fulham drop points to Manchester United.

The reverse meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-1 win for Brentford thanks to goals from Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo.

Where to watch

Team News

Adam Wharton and Jefferson Lerma remain long-term absentees.

Kristoffer Ajer, Aaron Hickey and Ethan Pinnock are expected to be the absentees for Brentford for this game.

Form Guide

The recent history between the two teams suggests that a close encounter is on the cards between the two teams. The results have been equally shared in the last five meetings between the two teams, with both teams gaining a win over each other in the last two meetings. The five previous meetings between the two teams before those two fixtures ended in a draw, with both recent victories taking place at the respective home ground of the victor. This fixture tends to provide goals for either side, as both teams have scored in the last five meetings between the two teams.

Crystal Palace come into this game in brilliant form, which has seen the Eagles dispel any note or suggestion that a relegation battle will be on the horizon in the near future. Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their previous six matches in all competitions and have won three consecutive matches against Stockport County (3-0), Leicester City (0-2) and West Ham United (0-2). The Eagles are unbeaten in five Premier League matches, with those wins mentioned and further results against Southampton (2-1), Bournemouth (0-0) and Chelsea (1-1).

The Eagles have had a relatively mixed record on home soil, having only won once in their previous five league matches at Selhurst Park, although they have only suffered one defeat to Arsenal (1-5) in that run of games. Crystal Palace have only won twice at home this season, gaining 11 points from a possible 33 on offer, with five draws along the way.

Brentford have been suffering a slight dip in form as of late, although the Bees have still managed to record impressive performances against Liverpool (despite the defeat) and, most notably, Manchester City, which ended 2-2 after Brentford were two goals down. Brentford are coming into this game winless in their previous three games, which has also seen their perfect home record end at the hands of Nottingham Forest (0-2), Arsenal (1-3) and Liverpool (0-2) in the Premier League.

Away from home is where Brentford have been their most vulnerable. Their previous away win against Southampton (0-5) and their two 0-0 draws against Brighton and Everton are the only points gained from their travels this season from ten league games away from home. Brentford had an unwanted record earlier this season of five consecutive losses away from home.
