Oliver Glasner will take charge of Crystal Palace this weekend at Selhurst Park with the former Eintracht Frankfurt replacing Roy Hodgson after the latter departed late last week as Glasner meets with Burnley on his Premier League debut.
Palace are set to play their first home game without Roy Hodgson after the legendary manager departed Selhurst Park late last week that forced in former centre-back and assistant manager Paddy McCarthy to the helm.
McCarthy got off a relatively positive start by drawing 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park, as Jordan Ayew scored a terrific goal, although this was just his third goal of the Premier League season and it also keeps Palace just five points above the bottom three and five above Everton in the fight to survive.
Two years on from winning the Europa League and a season on from finishing second to RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal, Glasner heads into this one having won 41 of his 81 games in charge of Wolfsburg before winning 38 from 97 for Frankfurt. There's no doubting the quality of the 49-year-old, and it does look as if Palace could have a fantastic manager on their hands.
Nevertheless, with just a gap of five points on Luton Town in 18th and Everton in 17th, the club are well in a relegation scrap and are going to need to improve in order to not get sucked closer to the bottom three. Worse yet, with a gap of three points on Bournemouth in 13th, it seems as if the club are well and truly in a relegation scrap an unlikely to move any closer to the top 10.
As for Burnley, they themselves are all but doomed. The Clarets have been woeful all campaign long and still have only three points on the board and a gap of seven points now on Everton. On the other hand, a win for them here would no doubt be their biggest of the season and perhaps the worst loss of the campaign for Palace. Burnley have also scored only 25 goals, which is three fewer than Palace's tally, but with 55 let in, only Sheffield United in last place have conceded more.
