Everton vs Luton Prediction, Tips & Stats

The Hatters travel to Goodison Park on Saturday and the aim for the two clubs will be to improve upon their poor starts to the new campaign. Luton are priced at 11/2 to win the game, whereas Everton are the favourites at 4/7.

            Everton

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, the Everton faithful will have been looking forward to a fresh start in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, but for the first few games, their form from last season continued. They sit in 15th after six matches, with a points tally of four. The main Problem for the Toffees has been their lack of goals and in particular how wasteful they are in front of goal at times. Sean Dyche’s side have only scored in two of their six games thus far, yet they have missed 13 big chances, which underlines that chance creation hasn’t been an issue. Luckily for Everton, they have a solid defensive foundation that can often keep them in games.

That said, the Toffees did pick up their first win of the season last weekend, when they beat Brentford 3-1 on the road. Everton opened the scoring thanks to Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 6th minute, yet by the half hour mark, Brentford had equalised. Everton threaten the most from set piece scenarios, which is where the opener came from, and they added their second from a corner thanks to James Tarkowski. Dominic Calvert-Lewin also scored his first of the season, which is a huge boost for the Toffees.

            Luton

Since earning promotion to the English topflight, Luton have found the step up a struggle, but so have all the promoted sides. In fact, Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton are all on one point after six games for the former and five for the other two. The Hatters are in 18th place with a record of three goals scored and 11 goals conceded, with two of their goals coming from Carlton Morris via the penalty spot. This clearly highlights that Luton are finding it difficult to create and be clinical in front of goal, whilst also being vulnerable at the back. Rob Edward’s side have also lost all three of their away games this season.

However last time out, Luton hosted Wolves in a 1-1 draw. Although the result and point is a step in the right direction, the circumstances In the game should have seen the Hatters pick up their first victory. In the 39th minute Wolves were down to ten men and at that point, it looked like Luton were going to win the tie, but Pedro Neto struck just after the break to give the visitors the lead. Morris then equalised from the spot in the 65th minute, yet Luton didn’t have enough creativity to break down the Wolves low block.

            Verdict?

Everton also picked up an impressive 2-1 victory away to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup this week, whereas a heavily rotated Luton side lost 1-0 on the road to League One side Exeter City. The Toffees have started to pick up a run of form and with the home crowd behind them, they should win on Saturday.

The final prediction Is Everton 2-0 Luton.

            Everton Team News

Beto should start up front as Calvert-Lewin still has to manage his minutes. Vitality Mykolenko has a knock and he is currently being assessed ahead of the weekend. Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski will be the centre back pairing, with the latter captaining the side.

            Luton Team News

Albert Sambi Lokonga is ruled out until the end of November with a thigh injury. Ross Barkley and Tom Lockyer could feature but they aren’t 100%. Carlton Morris will lead the line and look to score in consecutive games.
