Chelsea will be aiming to end their winless run in the Premier league on Monday evening as they travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham in a game which kicks off at 20:00.
After a disastrous start to their campaign, Chelsea currently find themselves in 14th position in the table, having recorded just one win, two draws and three defeats from their opening six outings.
Mauricio Pochettino already finds himself under immense pressure after recording just one point from his last three league games at the helm. The Blues recorded a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest Followed by a goalless draw against Bournemouth and a 1-0 loss against Aston Villa.
Despite spending over one billion under Todd Boehly, a lack of attacking quality has been Chelsea’s downfall so far this campaign. Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to score a league goal in September and have the third worst goalscoring record in the league having only found the back of the net on five occasions this season.
The Blues will be seeking to build on their midweek victory in the EFL Cup, where they narrowly defeated Brighton in a tight affair. A second-half Nicholas Jackson goal was the difference between the sides on the night. The Blues are set to host Blackburn Rovers in the 4th round of the cup.
Fulham currently sit in 11th position in the league following a mixed start to their campaign. The Cottagers have amassed eight points so far this season, following two wins, two draws and two defeats.
Marco Silva’s side have recorded 1-0 victories over struggling Luton Town and Everton however have come unstuck against higher level opposition as they were defeated 5-1 to Manchester City and 3-0 to Brentford.
Fulham also secured safe passage into the 4th round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening as they defeated championship opposition in the form of Norwich City. Goals from Carlos Vinicius and a first Fulham goal from Alex Iwobi ensured Fulham’s progression as they came out 2-1 winners. The Cottagers will face Ipswich Town in the 4th round of the competition on the 31st of October.
The fixture of Fulham vs Chelsea has a long and storied history, with the clubs first meeting in 1910. In total, the two sides have met on 89 occasions, with Fulham winning 12, Chelsea winning 50 and there being 27 draws.
In last year’s edition of the Premier League, Chelsea failed to beat Fulham in both meetings of the clubs. In the game at Craven Cottage, the Cottagers recorded a historic win thanks to goals from Willian and Carlos Vinicius. The return fixture ended goalless despite Chelsea dominating 67% of the game's possession.
Despite their poor start to the campaign, Chelsea are still heavy favourites to win the game and are currently priced @ 1/1, whilst a home win for Fulham is currently priced @ 13/5 and a draw is @ 5/2.
We are backing Chelsea to win and under 2.5 match goals. Despite their poor start to the season, we believe that the Blues midweek win will give them confidence heading into this tie but their lack of clinical finishing in the final third will limit the number of goals scored.
