Newcastle United vs Aston Villa Prediction, Tips & Stats

Aston Villa head to St. James' Park on opening weekend in the Premier League with Newcastle United aiming to build on their best season in the past 20 years from last campaign with Champions League football around the corner.

Newcastle finished fourth last time out, and this was the highest the club have finished this century in what was Eddie Howe's first full campaign with the club. This was also another summer under the ownership of the Saudi-backed owners, and the signings have kept coming in for arguably the most promising side in world football right now.

The Magpies also had a near-faultless preseason campaign, drawing with only Chelsea and Aston Villa. Alongside this, the club managed to defeat Gateshead, Rangers and Brighton & Hove Albion before victories over Fiorentina and Villarreal back at St. James' Park.

Like Newcastle, Villa have made more positive moves in the summer transfer window and only grown Unai Emery's credentials with the Midlands outfit even more. During preseason, however, Emery's side only beat Valencia, Lazio and Fulham, as they drew with Walsall, Newcastle and Brentford.

Bruno Guimaraes 1+ shots on target is bosoted to 2/1 in this one - Guimaraes hit the target in two of his last three home games. New signing, Moussa Diaby, to score or assist is at 9/4 -Diaby scored or assisted 25 goals last season for Bayer Leverkusen. 2+ shots on target each team in each half is also up at 13/2, while Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins both to score sits at 9/1.

Aston Villa team news

From a pound-for-pound perspective, Villa have had arguably the best transfer window. They've acquired Youri Tielemans, incredibly done so on a free transfer. Pau Torres also links back up with Emery from Villarreal, while Moussa Diaby could turn out to be one of the signings of the season from Bayer Leverkusen after 25 goal involvements last campaign.

Villa do enter this season having just found out that Emi Buendia is out injured with an ACL injury and now will miss most of the season. Jacob Ramsey is also out for around a month, but Alex Moreno is nearing a return after a hamstring strain towards the end of last season.

Newcastle United team news

Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes make up a fantastic transfer window for Newcastle, while the club have also offloaded Chris Wood and Karl Darlow. Star man, Allan Saint-Maximin, has also left for the Saudi Pro League, and despite being injured so often, he will surely be missed.

Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo are still out injured, but Fabian Schar and Jo Willock are nearing a return and could so at some stage in August.
