Newcastle vs Chelsea Prediction

Newcastle United versus Chelsea will be a difficult game to call and should be a close encounter between two sides firmly in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.

The Magpies have been excellent in the Premier League, with five wins from their last seven league matches, with their only moment of weakness being the 4-0 defeat against Aston Villa. At home, Eddie Howe’s side have been tremendous, with Newcastle United winning their last five Premier League matches at St. James’ Park.

Chelsea are also in great form across all competitions, with the Blues having won their last five games and are also unbeaten in their last six league matches. Interestingly though, Enzo Maresca’s side have been lacklustre away from home in the Premier League, with four defeats from their last six games on the road.

In this fixture, the Blues have not kept a clean sheet in the last eight meetings between the two sides, with both teams scoring in six of the last seven matches between the two. Chelsea have also lost four of their last six trips to Newcastle, and we think it will be five losses from seven on Sunday.

Newcastle United 2-1 Chelsea

Newcastle vs Chelsea Preview & Prediction

Newcastle United host Chelsea on Sunday, with this game seen as pivotal in determining who qualifies for the UEFA Champions League this season.

Date: 11/05/2025
Location: St.James’ Park, Newcastle.
Kick-Off: 12 pm

Newcastle United have already enjoyed a wonderful season under Eddie Howe, as his side ended the club’s long-awaited 70-year spell of winning a domestic trophy. The Magpies deservedly beat Premier League Champions, Liverpool, 2-1 at Wembley to secure the Carabao Cup and bring joy and adulation across Tyneside. In the Premier League, the home side have used that momentum from the Carabao Cup triumph and has their eyes firmly set on a top-five finish, which will secure a place in the Champions League next season.

Newcastle United are in fourth place in the Premier League, having accumulated 63 points from 35 matches played in the league. Newcastle United and Chelsea are separated only by goal difference in the league, and the two sides have already met twice this season. Chelsea recorded a 2-1 victory against the Magpies at Stamford Bridge in the league, while three days after the said fixture, Newcastle United exacted revenge in a 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea are in fifth place in the Premier League, having accumulated 63 points this season, scoring 62 and conceding 41. Enzo Maresca’s side have won 18 matches, drawing nine and losing three. The Blues were in the conversation of a potential title challenge in December, yet results and form had derailed their minimal title challenge. Away from home, Chelsea have been solid, with seven wins from 17 games, four draws and six losses.

Enzo Maresca’s side have two avenues for European qualification this season, as the visitors have now booked their place in the UEFA Europa Conference League final, in which they will face Real Betis. Should the Blues beat Real Betis, they will qualify for the UEFA Europa League as a minimum, regardless of where they finish in the Premier League.
