Wolves vs. Aston Villa Prediction, Tips & Stats

We have a Midlands derby in the Premier League this weekend as Wolverhampton Wanderers face Aston Villa.

Wolverhampton Wanderers currently sit 14th in the Premier League with ten wins, seven draws and seventeen losses from thirty-four games this season.

Wolves have had a solid campaign after a poor start to the season with Julen Lopetegui reviving their season as they now likely need just one more win to secure survival.

They enter this game in solid form overall having won three of their last five matches but having lost their most recent game 6-0 away at Brighton & Hove Albion there is some concern over their mental state coming into this game.

In fairness, Wolves are two different sides depending on whether they're playing at home or away at the result at Brighton means they're now six games without a win on the road having lost four of their last five.

Their home form is much more encouraging, though, with Wolves having won four of their last five games at home, including each of their last three, with all four wins coming with a clean sheet.

Wolves will be desperate to secure survival earlier rather than later to avoid a nervy finish and doing so in front of their own fans will make it all the more sweet.

Aston Villa currently sit 8th in the Premier League with sixteen wins, six draws and twelve losses from thirty-four games this season.

Villa are having an outstanding campaign under Unai Emery who's taken them from relegation fodder to Europa League candidates in a transformation that will likely see the Spaniard nominated for manager of the year.

They enter this game in decent form having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five matches, the most recent of which was a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

The loss at Old Trafford ended what slim hopes they had of Champions League qualification and their focus now turns to trying to secure a Europa League place, something they'll likely have to finish 6th to claim.

Their form away from home has been fairly solid of late having won two, drawn one and lost one of their last four games on the road.

Striker Ollie Watkins has been outstanding since Unai Emery took charge of the club but now finds himself three games without a goal so Emery will be hoping he can rediscover his goalscoring touch to help fire his side to a win here.

This will likely be an extremely competitive affair and one that is tough to call.

For our Wolves vs. Villa prediction, we're going for a 1-1 draw.

            Wolves Team News

Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic are both out injured for Wolves while Nélson Semedo and Boubacar Traoré are both doubtful.

Julen Lopetegui will no doubt make changes following the 6-0 loss at Brighton with Nathan Collins, Adama Traoré, Hwang See-Chan and Matheus Cunha all pushing to start.

            Aston Villa Team News

Boubacar Kamara, Matty Cash, Philippe Coutinho, Jed Steer and Leon Bailey are all out for Villa here.

Emery will likely name an unchanged XI following a competitive affair at Old Trafford last time out.
