Barcelona vs Deportivo Alaves Prediction

Barcelona enters this game as firm favourites and have been in good goalscoring form of late, having found the back of the net 19 times in their last five matches across all competitions, including victories over Real Betis (5-1), Benfica (5-4) and Valencia (7-1).

In contrast, Deportivo Alaves come into this fixture with just one win in their last ten matches across all competitions, seeing them sit 17th in La Liga with the fourth-worst defensive record having leaked 34 goals in 21 games.

On top of those statistics, Barcelona have won 20 of their last 24 meetings with Deportivo Alaves, meaning that we can’t see anything other than an emphatic victory for Hansi Flick’s men this weekend.

Prediction: Barcelona 5-1 Deportivo Alaves

Barcelona vs Deportivo Alaves Prediction & Preview

Third-place Barcelona will be desperate to keep pace with La Liga leaders Real Madrid when they host 17th-place Deportivo Alaves at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Date: 02/02/2025

Location: Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys

Time: 1pm

Heading into gameweek 22 of the 2024/25 La Liga season, Barcelona are seven points adrift of Real Madrid and three points behind second-place Atlético Madrid, a position that Hansi Flick’s side will be disappointed in following their red-hot start to the campaign. The Catalan club managed to win 11 of their first 12 La Liga matches and have since won just two of their last nine games, with their most recent one being a confidence-boosting 7-1 victory against Valencia.

In the Champions League, Barcelona qualifield for the Round of 16 via a second-place finish in the Group Stage with 19 points from eight games. As far as the Copa de Rey goes, they will face Valencia at the Mestalla in the quarter-finals following superb 4-0 and 5-1 wins against Barbastro and Real Betis.

Barcelona have shown that they have what it takes to win La Liga, however, they must start to show consistency. Hansi Flick’s side recently thrashed arch rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in the final of the Supercopa de España, a scoreline that sent shockwaves around the world, even more so that their 4-0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu back in late October.

As far as players to look out for go, Robert Lewandowski is the top scorer in La Liga with 17 goals from 20 matches, while ex-Leeds United winger Raphinha is in the best form of his career, as the 28-year-old has scored 23 goals and created 13 assists in 32 matches across all competitions for Barcelona this campaign.

Deportivo Alaves sit just one point above 18th Espanyol and will be keen to see an upturn in form, having accumulated just 21 points from 21 matches (five wins, five draws and 11 losses).

The visitors started the season in decent form, as they won three and drew one of their first six matches, seeing them earn nearly half of their current points total in those games alone, however, it has been a struggle for them of late, as they have won just one of their last 10 matches, with that sole victory coming over Real Betis on 18th January, where ex-Middlesbrough forward Kike Garcia fired in a hat-trick, doubling his goalscoring tally for the current campaign.

As far as the Copa del Rey goes, Deportivo Alaves are out of that competition, as they suffered a humiliating defeat to Club Deportivo Minera on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the Second Round, having scraped past Compostela 1-0 in Round One.

When Deportivo hosted Barcelona back on 6th October at Mendizorrotza Stadium, it was the visitors who ran out as 3-0 victors following a hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski.
