Porto and Royal Antwerp will clash in Belgium this Wednesday in the Champions League with both sides sitting in contrasting bouts of form in the Champions League after two defeats in a row for the Belgian Pro League side.
Not much was expected of Antwerp in this group with the likes of Porto and Barcelona to meet with and they have struggled tremendously. Last time out in Europe, they ended up losing a two-goal lead to eventually lose 3-2 to Shakhtar Donetsk after Arbnor Muja scored after three minutes in the game. Michel-Ange Balikwisha also scored that day before three second half goals from the Ukrainian side.
Antwerp also suffered a 5-0 loss to Barcelona on matchday one in Spain, and they also drew three games 0-0 in between these two Champions League games, meaning only two goals were scored in those five matches during September and early October.
The club returned to winning ways after a 4-1 victory over Eupen shortly after, as Arthur Vermeeren, Balikwisha and Muja all scored once more from the 12 shots on target that day.
However, once again, Antwerp failed to win two games in a row after a 3-2 loss to Charleroi on the road, where Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and George Ilenikhena scored a goal each.
As for Porto, they are currently third in the Primeira Liga and trail Sporting Lisbon at the top by three points after suffering a loss to Benfica a few weeks back. Porto would return to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Portimonense last time out. On the other hand, despite still well in a title race early on, the club have scored just 11 goals from eight games so far, which is one of their worst records in recent times.
