The Hoops welcome Lazio to Celtic Park on Wednesday evening, where they will look to pick up their first point in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Celtic
Brendan Rodger’s Celtic have dominated the Scottish Premiership so far, winning six of their opening seven matches. Back to back league titles is on the cards and their solid defensive record of four goals conceded will most definitely help them get closer to achieving success. Celtic have also been scoring for fun, with an average of over 2 goals scored per game.
Last time out in the UCL, Celtic suffered a 2-0 defeat on the road to Feyenoord. The tie was evenly contested until the opener on the stroke of halftime and in the second half, the Hoops fell apart. Gustaf Lagerbielke conceded a penalty and was sent off for a second yellow. Igor Paixao couldn’t convert and just three minutes later, Celtic were down to nine men. With the numerical on field advantage, the hosts made it 2-0 in the 76th minute.
Lazio
Le Aquile haven’t exactly been flying so far in the Serie A and they are placed in 17th after seven games. Maurizio Sarri’s side lost three of their first four matches but managed to beat Napoli 2-1 in matchday three. Lazio average only one goal per game this season which just highlights that scoring goals has been their biggest issue.
In fact, in their UCL opener against Atletico Madrid that ended 1-1, it was Lazio’s goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel that dramatically equalised in the 95th minute with a header that the finest of centre forwards would be proud of. Lazio registered 18 shots from outfield players prior to the goal, but they struggled to unlock the stubborn Diego Simeone side.
Verdict?
Celtic Park will be bouncing on Wednesday and the players will need the support if they are to get a result. Lazio will be looking to build on their one point and the fixture against Celtic will be a great opportunity for them to do so.
The final prediction is Celtic 1-2 Lazio, Le Aquile to win is priced at 13/10.
