Napoli vs Real Madrid Preview, Tips & Stats

Real Madrid make the trip to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to take on Napoli in matchday two of the Champions League. As the top two teams in Group C, this game will likely highlight a front runner in the group.

Napoli currently sit top of Group C with one win and the most goals scored. As for their domestic league, Napoli sit third with four wins, two draws and one loss in seven games.

In their last five games in all competitions Napoli have three wins and two draws. Genoa took a 2 - 0 lead through Mattia Bani and Mateo Retegui but goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Matteo Politano meant the game finished 2 - 2. In the first Group stage game in the Champions League, Napoli travelled to Braga. Giovanni Di Lorenzo put Napoli ahead, but Bruma equalised late on. However, an own goal from Sikou Niakate gave Napoli the 2 - 1 win over Braga and the three points.

The trip to Bologna ended in a goalless draw despite Napoli registering eight more shots than Bologna but the next game against Udinese was much more successful. Piotr Zielinski converted his penalty and was joined by Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giovanni Simeone as Napoli won 4 - 1.

The most recent outing for Napoli was against Lecce. Leo Øsrigard, Osimhen, Gianluca Gaetano and Politano all scored in the 4 - 0 win.

Real Madrid sit second in Group C also on three points, and due to only scoring one goal, they sit behind Napoli. However, Real Madrid do sit top of La Liga with seven wins and one loss in eight games, one point ahead of Barcelona.

In their last five games in all competitions, Real Madrid have four wins and one loss. Despite Ander Barrenetxea scoring early for Real Sociedad, Federico Valverde and Joselu both scored in the second half to give Madrid the 2 - 1 win. In the Champions League, Real Madrid hosted Union Berlin. With 32 shots and seven shots on target in comparison to Union’s four shots and zero on target, it took a 94th minute goal from Jude Bellingham to grab the 1 - 0 win.

The loss came against fierce city rivals Atletico Madrid. Former Real Madrid player Alvaro Morata scored twice along with Antoine Griezmann to give Atletico the 3 - 1 win, with Toni Kroos scoring for Real Madrid. However, Real were back to winning ways against Las Palmas. Brahim Diaz and Joselu both scored to give Real a 2 - 0 win.

The last time out for Real Madrid was against Girona. Joselu scored once again along with Aurelien Tchouameni and Bellingham giving Real Madrid the 3 - 0 win. Despite Nacho’s 94th minute red card, which will only prevent him appearing in La Liga games, he is free to play against Napoli.

Napoli and Real Madrid have only met in the Champions League on four occasions with Real Madrid winning three times and the sides drawing once, as Napoli have never won a game against Real Madrid in the competition. The most recent meeting came in the 2016/17 Round of 16 where Madrid won 6 - 2 over two legs.

          Napoli Team News

Rudi Garcia only has one injury to contend with this weekend. Juan Jesus picked up a biceps femoris muscle injury in late September. Jesus could return this weekend, but not soon enough for the clash against Real Madrid.

          Real Madrid Team News

Carlo Ancelotti also has some injury worries. There are the long term injuries to Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao, but Arda Guler recently picked up a muscle injury in September and won’t return until mid October.
