PSG vs AC Milan Prediction, Tips & Stats

PSG take on AC Milan this week, in a game that both sides will be desperate to win. The hosts are the favorites going into the tie, but the visitors will look to frustrate their French opponent.

            PSG

The Parisians are currently in the process of a rebuild and Luis Enrique has found it difficult to portray his philosophy to the current squad. The minimum expectation at PSG is to win Ligue 1, but they have struggled domestically this season, winning only five of their opening nine matches. They have scored 20 goals and conceded seven, but Enrique's more pragmatic approach has hindered their attacking threat at times.

PSG started their UCL campaign off with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, but last time out, they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Newcastle. The atmosphere inside St James' Park absorbed the PSG XI and they were 2-0 down by half time. The crowd's volume was increasing after every successful Newcastle tackle and they added a third after the break. PSG did reply quickly but the tie was already over.

            AC Milan

Milan are second in the Serie A after nine games, winning seven and losing two. Stefano Pioli's side are extremely solid defensively and they have conceded just four goals in the league (if you exclude the 5-1 drumming to Inter). They have also been threatening in attack and they have only failed to score once, which was against Juventus this weekend.

It is clear that Milan struggle when they compete in big games, and that has been the case in the UCL this season. The Rossoneri are in third place in Group F after two games, however they have both ended 0-0, which highlights that in attack they have struggled. The most recent 0-0 draw versus Borussia Dortmund saw Milan create three big chances and register 14 shots, but they were still unable to convert.

            Verdict?

Milan have the potential to hurt PSG on the counter attack this week, especially if they can get the ball to Rafael Leao quickly. Although they failed to score at the weekend, i think they break their goal drought in Europe against PSG. The Parisians may find it difficult to breakdown Milan initially but they should be able to edge it.

The final prediction is PSG 3-1 Milan.

            PSG Team News

Warren Zaire-Emery, Marco Asensio and Nuno Mendes are all out of the match. Gianluigi Donnarumma will start in net and face his old side. Marquinhos will start at the back and Fabian Ruiz may be drafted into the starting XI. Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele will look to hurt Milan from out wide.

            AC Milan Team News

Ismael Bennacer is unavailable and he will be a huge miss in the heart of the Milan midfield. Theo Hernandez should start at left back and look to link up with Leao down the left. Olivier Giroud should lead the line in a 4-3-3 formation.
