Sevilla travel to the Netherlands, where they will face Peter Bosz’s PSV. The two sides met in last season’s Europa League, with the home side winning on both occasions.
PSV
PSV have been unstoppable in the Eredivisie this season and after seven games, they have a 100% win rate. Peter Bosz has found the perfect tactical balance which allows his side to be a constant attacking threat, whilst being extremely secure at the back. The Dutch side have scored 23 times already this season and conceded only twice, which just underlines how dominant they’ve been. Ex-Sevilla centre forward, Luuk De Jong has been on fire also, registering 10 goal contributions and he will hope to score versus his old side.
On the other hand, PSV suffered their first defeat of the season against Arsenal in their UCL opener. The Gunners were 3-0 up by halftime and the opener in the 8th minute had stunned the visitors. PSV showed attacking intent throughout but Arsenal just had far too much quality to compete against. The match ended 4-0.
Sevilla
Sevilla had a poor start to the new La Liga season, losing their opening three games. However their performances seem to have picked up slightly over the last few weeks. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have tallied up seven points from their last four games, and they lost 1-0 away to Barcelona this weekend due to an unfortunate Sergio Ramos own goal. On the road, Sevilla are yet to taste victory with their most recent away game ending 0-0.
Last time out in the Champions League, Sevilla were held at home to a 1-1 draw by French side, Lens. Lucas Ocampos opened the scoring in the 9th minute, but they conceded just 15 minutes later. In the second half, Sevilla dominated the ball but they struggled to create any clear cut chances. They were also vulnerable on the counter attack and on another day, Lens would have run away with the game.
Verdict?
Both teams will be confident that they can win this game but it should be a close encounter. PSV have been incredible in the Eredivisie, yet they were exposed at the Emirates. Sevilla do not oppose the same attacking threat as Arsenal but they will look to frustrate the hosts.
The final prediction is PSV 1-1 Sevilla.
