Iceland vs Slovakia Prediction, Tips & Stats

Iceland and Slovakia are aiming to get another win on the board with both sides separated by one point in Group J of the Euro 2024 qualifiers in a group that is looking like the toughest one to predict.

Iceland, Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are all likely to battle for second spot in the group with Portugal expected to ease to first place with their two wins from two games, 10 goals scored and zero conceded.

Iceland managed to smash Liechtenstein 7-0 in their last outing in a game that saw Aron Gunnarsson score a hat-trick alongside goals from Mikael Egill Ellertsson, Andri Gudjohnsen, Hakon Amar Haraldsson and David Kristijan Olafsson. Prior to this, Iceland lost 3-0 to Bosnia and Herzegovina and remain down in fourth as a result.

As for Slovakia, they drew 0-0 with Luxembourg in a very underwhelming performance for them in the opening game of Group J. They did, however, go on to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 with thanks to a goal each from Robert Mak and Lukas Haraslin.

          Slovakia team news

Martin Dúbravka has barely played this season for both Newcastle United and Manchester United but will still start in goal for his country. Milan Skriniar is out injured and won't play in these games with Vladimir Wiess also set to be a huge miss up top for Slovakia. Albert Rusnak is also out injured and won't feature here. This will also be the first set of fixtures since 2007 where the legendary figure of the country's all-time scorer and appearances maker, Marek Hamšík, is unable to be called upon with the Slovakian retiring this month. Peter Pekarík will be integral in defence as well with his 117 caps alongside Adam Obert of Cagliari after an incredible season in Serie B. Juraj Kucka will captain the side in midfield too, as Ondrej Duda and Patrik Hrošovský likely play alongside him.

          Iceland team news

Birkir Bjarnason is the vice-captain of Iceland and will start in midfield for the 114th time in search of his 16th goal for his country. Aron Gunnarsson of Al-Arabi will captain the side too and Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson of Burnley will start in midfield too after an excellent season. Albert Guðmundsson of Genoa may also get some minutes. In defence, Hörður Björgvin Magnússon is the main man alongside D.C. United's Victor Pálsson and Alfreð Finnbogason will start up top after scoring 15 goals in 65 caps for Iceland. Sveinn Aron Guðjohnsen and Andri Guðjohnsen are notable absentees for the nation with Stefán Teitur Þórðarson also set to miss out through injury.
